Sanrio’s highly-anticipated return to simulation games, Hello Kitty Island Adventure, has made waves among the cozy gaming community after finally debuting on PC. Like other games in the simulation genre, Hello Kitty Island Adventure features fairly standard gameplay like fishing, gardening, catching critters, and befriending Villagers.
Yet Hello Kitty Island Adventure has already distinguished itself from its siblings in the simulation genre in a few key ways. But one new take on a mandatory simulation game feature should inspire other simulation games, particularly the genre titan that is the Animal Crossing franchise. With the Nintendo Switch 2 coming out later this year, a new Animal Crossing title will likely debut either with the new console, or shortly thereafter. This new title would be the perfect time to implement this new Hello Kitty Island Adventure take.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure Has an Unlimited Inventory
One of the biggest limiting factors all cozy gamers must deal with is inventory limits. Regardless of what content or materials players are carrying around, games even outside the simulation genre limit their players. Of course, cozy games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Stardew Valley all have inventory limits. But Hello Kitty Island Adventure differs from other hits in the simulation genre.
Unlike other video games, Hello Kitty Island Adventure does not have an inventory limit. This allows players to fish, garden, catch critters, and collect critters for the Island’s many Villagers without any limitations. This arguably makes Hello Kitty Island Adventure more relaxing than other simulation games. After all, an unlimited inventory allows players to focus on the game, rather than stress about micromanaging their inventory. This helps Hello Kitty Island Adventure stand among other hit simulation games like Stardew Valley, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and the Animal Crossing franchise. Removing inventory limits allows for a cozier gaming experience, even if there are other aspects of gameplay players have to monitor and worry about.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure and Animal Crossing Could Compete on the Switch 2
While Hello Kitty Island Adventure has only been available for PC and Nintendo Switch since late January, the game received its first launch in July 2023 on Apple Arcade. The game will also expand to other consoles like the PlayStation 5 later in 2025. Despite its relative newness, the success of Hello Kitty Island Adventure and its lack of inventory limit should inspire Nintendo to implement this change in the next Animal Crossing game. In fact, since Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available for Nintendo Switch, it would be understandable if Switch 2 players who play Hello Kitty Island Adventure would feel slightly disappointed to boot up the next Animal Crossing title and be faced with inventory limits yet again.
There have been no official reports from Nintendo, or from Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s developer Sunblink, that the game will get a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version. Like Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s console expansion, the Nintendo Switch 2 is predicted to launch later in the year. Considering that the expansion and the launch could align at the same time, it would make sense for the Switch 2 to be one of the consoles Hello Kitty Island Adventure is compatible with.
If Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has even more reason to remove inventory limits in the next Animal Crossing title. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons did not launch alongside the original Switch, players and critics alike speculate that the next Animal Crossing title will debut with the Nintendo Switch 2. If this prediction is true, cozy gamers can compare Hello Kitty Island Adventure with this new title on the same device. Of course, Animal Crossing as a franchise has its own draw, but Nintendo should be sure to implement an unlimited inventory if it doesn’t want one of its crown jewels to be outshined by Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
