Bloodborne is one of the greatest video games ever made and arguably both FromSoftware’s and Miyazaki’s magnum opus. This statement should be enough to highlight just how captivating this game is, with the amazing lore and world-building being a huge reason why fans can’t get enough of this masterpiece.

Amygdala
Landing Hits To The Face Can Be Quite Tricky
- HP: 22,049
- Blood Echoes: 101,899
- Location: Defiled Chalice
- Drops: Great Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice
Given how terrifying the Lesser Amygdalas are in the world of Bloodborne once players get to see them in the game, it’s easy to see why fighting one of these creatures can be so intimidating. This encounter is initiated at the end of the Nightmare Frontier, an optional location that features the iconic FromSoftware poison swamp.
Players can maximize the damage they deal to this foe if they target its arms or, better yet, its head. However, this is easier said than done if players lack a weapon with longer reach, forcing them to either tackle the legs for minimal damage or hope that some of their wild swings get lucky and hit this tricky boss where it hurts.

Father Gascoigne
A Boss That’s A Nightmare To Deal With For Players Still Unfamiliar With Bloodborne’s Combat
- HP: 2,031
- Blood Echoes: 1,800
- Location: Central Yharnam
- Drops: Oedon Tomb Key
Bloodborne veterans will scoff at the idea of this boss challenging them, but Father Gascoigne is pretty tricky for players who still approach this title with the same cautious mindset as Dark Souls. This aggressive boss charges players with a massive weapon and transforms into a beast after 2/3rds of his health bar is depleted.
The boss becomes especially tricky for newcomers after this point, especially since he starts breaking down the gravestones that Gascoigne used to get stuck behind during his human phase. Unless players match Gascoigne’s aggression, rally their health, and exploit his lengthy attack combos with well-placed countershots, they’ll be obliterated by this boss over and over again.

Shadows Of Yharnam
A Frenetic Encounter Where The Hunter Is Outnumbered in a Three-on-One
- HP: 2,046, 2,602, & 3,645
- Blood Echoes: 20,460
- Location: Forbidden Woods
- Drops: Blood Rapture
Any boss fight in a FromSoftware game where players are outnumbered is a tricky affair, and the Shadows of Yharnam are no exception. Players must read the move sets of these foes and ensure that they don’t get caught off-guard by the other two foes as they focus on one Shadow.

Lady Maria Of The Astral Clocktower
An Epic Encounter Where Every Phase Is As Intimidating As Can Be
- HP: 14,081
- Blood Echoes: 39,000
- Location: Astral Clocktower
- Drops: Celestial Dial
Lady Maria is an epic boss encounter in The Old Hunters who makes a resounding impact by flaunting her Rakuyo moments before the battle starts. This boss is split into three phases as blood and fire damage are added to her attacks respectively as the fight drags on.
Some of her combos can be a nightmare to deal with, especially with the follow-up damage that players must deal with. It’s an epic and tricky duel where players must be at the top of their game to deal with her flamboyant offense.

Rom, The Vacuous Spider
The Divebombing Spiders Are A Nightmare To Deal With
- HP: 5,058
- Blood Echoes: 36,300
- Location: Moonside Lake
- Drops: Kin Coldblood (12)
While Rom may not be the best boss in Bloodborne, it sure is tricky for players who have no idea what they’re in for. The beauty of the boss arena will be forgotten once players realize just how much damage her spider underlings can deal when they divebomb at the Hunter.
This makes it important to manage the spider mobs that Rom summons before attacking her. Her wild flailing and ice barrage attacks can add to the trickiness of this encounter, especially if players are already overwhelmed by the sheer number of spiders gunning for their heads.
3
Laurence, The First Vicar
Somehow, Losing Half Of His Body Makes Laurence Even Trickier To Deal With
- HP: 21,242
- Blood Echoes: 29,500
- Location: Hunter’s Nightmare
- Drops: Beast’s Embrace
Many fans wondered how tough the Cleric Beast would be if it was scaled for the endgame, and they received their answer when they fought Laurence in The Old Hunters DLC. This character is important to Bloodborne‘s lore, but fans won’t care about that when they see just how tricky and challenging this foe is.

The fact that this optional boss fight gets even harder after Laurence splits in two is a testament to FromSoftware’s amazing encounter design. Sticking to this boss’ back is impossible with the lava that pools from his wound, forcing players to pick their attack windows wisely in the second phase if they don’t want to be squished for their greed.

Ludwig, The Accursed/The Holy Blade
An Epic And Unforgiving Encounter Where Both Phases Demand The Player’s Attention
- HP: 16,658
- Blood Echoes: 34,500
- Location: Old Yharnam
- Drops: Pthumeru Chalice
The first boss players encounter in The Old Hunters is perhaps the most iconic and fearsome encounter FromSoftware has ever developed. Ludwig’s humanity is all but abandoned as players take on a fearsome beast who is swift and hits like a truck.
At the midway point, Ludwig will fall to the floor and regain part of his humanity after seeing the glow of the iconic Holy Moonlight Sword. His beastly attitude is gone along with his weakness to serrated damage as the battle transforms into a duel between two competent hunters who put everything on the line in a bid to come out victorious. Even with a victory against this tricky boss, fans can’t help but feel hollow once they find out that Ludwig is unaware of the fact that his goal failed, with the scourge of beasts decimating the land as the Healing Church lost its way.

Orphan Of Kos
It’s Easy To Feel Helpless Against This Relentless Boss Who Doesn’t Give The Hunter Any Reprieve
- HP: 19,217
- Blood Echoes: 60,000
- Location: Fishing Hamlet Coast
- Drops: Kos Parasite
The Old Hunters ends with a bang, forcing players to face off against an infant Great One who is the hardest and trickiest FromSoftware boss of all time. The sheer panic that sets in once the Orphan of Kos screeches and runs at players is hard to describe.
The primal horror induced by this boss fight will make the battle trickier than ever, especially given how unpredictable and aggressive Orphan of Kos is. Even though he can be parried, the Orphan of Kos is no joke and will force players to either shape up or ship out and give up on reaching the end of the best expansion pack FromSoftware has ever developed.
