Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 Comes With a Catch

When Forza Horizon 5 releases for PS5, it will do so as a digital-only game. Forza Horizon 5 has long been one of Xbox’s highest-rated console-exclusive games, but that will change in the very near future. As part of Microsoft’s multi-platform initiative, Forza Horizon 5 is set to release on PlayStation 5, the chief competitor of the Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Forza Horizon 5 will launch on PS5 on April 29. It’s coming with all of the same content available in the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game and PS5 Pro support. As one of the most critically-acclaimed racing games of all time, many PS5 gamers are no doubt excited to get their hands on Forza Horizon 5 for themselves to see what all the fuss is about. Unfortunately, there’s a hiccup when it comes to Forza Horizon 5‘s PS5 release.

It’s been confirmed that there are currently no plans to release a physical version of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, meaning that the game will be digital-only on the platform. It’s true that the vast majority of video game sales nowadays are digital, but there are still many gamers that prefer owning physical copies of their games that will no doubt be upset by this revelation. To make matters even more upsetting for PS5 gamers, Forza Horizon 5 had a physical release on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Why exactly Forza Horizon 5 is skipping a physical release on PS5 has not been revealed at the time of this writing.

There Are No Plans for a Forza Horizon 5 PS5 Physical Release

While no official reason for Forza Horizon 5 not having a physical release on PS5 has been given, we can assume that it’s likely due to internal data showing that a physical release may not be worth the investment. The lack of a physical release doesn’t seem as though it will have that much of an impact on Forza Horizon 5‘s potential financial success on PS5, with the game already topping the PlayStation Store sales charts over a month ahead of its release.

It’s definitely disappointing that Forza Horizon 5 won’t have a physical release on PS5, but perhaps if fan demand is great enough, Xbox Game Studios will change its mind. In the meantime, Forza Horizon 5 isn’t the only Xbox Game Studios game expected to release in April. While an official release date has not been announced, it’s believed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PS5 in April as well. It will be interesting to see if that game has a physical release on PS5, or if it will follow in Forza Horizon 5‘s footsteps and be digital-only.
