Summary
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developer Warhorse revealed that it went out and bought star map data of early summer in 1403 to give players a historically accurate night sky.
- This was done with the hope that players would navigate with the stars, which Warhorse explains will be very helpful in the game’s upcoming Hardcore mode.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is an RPG all about kicking you in the teeth and making you fend for yourself. It’s a lot more brutal than your standard game in the genre, and even getting around the Kingdom of Bohemia can be a chore at times.
However, there are sadists among you that think the game should be even harder than it is now, and that’s why developer Warhorse Studios has been hard at work on a ‘Hardcore Mode’, which will give players the option to dramatically increase the difficulty of the game. Warhorse showed off a bit of the mode via a developer livestream earlier this week, including the fun and weird debuffs that you can saddle yourself with.

It’s extremely easy to lose track of the clock in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s open world.
One of the most interesting aspects of Hardcore Mode is your lack of navigation tools. You’re stripped of your compass, and your position on your map is no longer shown to you. Instead, you’re forced to use more traditional forms of finding your way around, such as talking to people, and even using the celestial bodies themselves.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Can Be Navigated With Just The Stars
We all know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, that one’s a gimme, but Warhorse apparently went one step further to make sure that players could navigate at night. Warhorse PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling explained during the stream – and later on Twitter – that the studio went out of its way to buy star map data of the early summer of 1403 to give players the most realistic night sky as possible.
That means if you know your constellations and star charts, you’ll actually be able to navigate around the Kingdom of Bohemia at night by simply looking up at the sky. Undoubtedly a very useful feature for Hardcore Mode, even if I can barely read a normal map at the best of times.
Either way, it will be a good challenge when Hardcore Mode is released, which will happen at some point around mid-April. A big patch with some much-needed changes will be first up though, including a small update that will let you change your hair and facial hair at the barbers, and the death of the ‘Hold W’ tutorial. Those will be dropping mid-March at some point, so not long to wait at all.
