Skyrim is one of the most popular video games of all time, receiving countless re-releases to keep up with the current generation of consoles, allowing players to experience it just one more time. It received several DLCs, one of which brought vampires to the world. Dawnguard was the name of this particular DLC, and it also serves as the name for the vampire hunting organization. With this DLC, players come face-to-face with the vampiric Lord Harkon and his daughter Serana.

Serana can accompany them for the Dawnguard quest and can even remain by their side once the quests have concluded, which many fans were pleased about. Considering she is a vampire, Serana is rather friendly and even optimistic, sometimes even remarking on the beauty of Skyrim. But she still holds some mystery, especially upon first meeting the Dragonborn, and this helps in making the player more curious about her.

Vampyr details the struggle of Jonathan Reid, an army medic who was turned into a vampire upon his return to London. He continued his good work as a doctor, trying to maintain his Hippocratic Oath while hungering for the blood of his patients. But, Jonathan isn’t alone in his new unlife; he meets fellow vampire Lady Elizabeth Ashbury, who has been a vampire for far longer than he has.

She has learned to feed in an ethical way by taking the blood of the dying, therefore easing their suffering while satiating her thirst. She first becomes a sort of mentor figure to Jonathan, as she has the experience that he lacks. Lady Ashbury is definitive proof that vampires, even in death, can still enjoy life. She takes pleasure in even the smallest things, such as the scent of tea she can no longer drink and even the love of another.

Konami’s Castlevania has produced plenty of masterpieces, but some games are better than others.

A queen of manipulation as well, Carmilla uses her looks and silver tongue to get what she wants, and she even puts these skills to the ultimate test against Gabriel himself. Even though she fails and is defeated by him, this doesn’t make her any less of a powerful and fantastic vampire. Her bloodthirsty role in the series is not diminished by either her over-the-top design or her death. Her return in Lord of Shadows 2 is only further proof of her true strength.

The first port of call after Ethan’s fight through the village will be the imposing yet gothically beautiful Castle Dimitrescu, home to the lady herself and her three daughters: Cassandra, Bela, and Daniela. The three daughters immediately swoop in as a swarm of flies, capturing Ethan and presenting him to their mother.

Despite being young adults, the daughters are clearly eager to please their mother, which is a very drastic tonal shift to the treatment of Ethan as they hunger for his ‘man-blood.’ They present threatening boss fights to Ethan as he fights to escape, using their swarm-forms to cut off his paths. Though they have committed many villainous deeds in the past, one can’t help but enjoy them and their touching relationship with Alcina.

Dhampirs hold a special place in horror and vampire video games, walking a fine line between two drastically different worlds.

Despite not being a full-blooded vampire, Rayne is still more than a match for the creatures of the night, including spider-creatures, feral vampires, and demonic parasites that infect and mutate their human hosts. Seductive, head-strong, and more than confident in her own abilities, Rayne is definitely a self-assured woman with the means to back it up. Her exploits in the first game alone are proof of that. And yet, Rayne still holds onto a small semblance of her humanity, as she isn’t completely cold to their struggles.

Bloodlines didn’t have the most painless development cycle, an infliction that also plagues its sequel, Bloodlines 2. But thanks to the tireless efforts of the remaining developers, Bloodlines was eventually released and made much more enjoyable when some particularly passionate fans took it upon themselves to match a patch, which still receives regular updates to this day.

In this flawed masterpiece, players take the role of a newly embraced vampire in the city of LA, brewing with political strife and a sense of unease when an ancient sarcophagus is unearthed, rumored to hold great power. Players meet many of the vampires in the city, two of whom are the ‘twin’ sisters running the club Asylum. Jeanette is the more popular of the two thanks to her shameless flirting and fun-loving personality. Between her and Therese, the choice is obvious for most players, as Jeanette is all around just more likable, even if it is apparent that she uses her natural charms to sway the fledgling into doing her bidding. But this is a game most vampires play, and Jeanette is a pro in this arena.

Alcina Dimitrescu (Resident Evil Village)

This Major Antagonist Casts a Large Shadow Over the Game

Resident Evil Village brought the Winters’ storyline to its bitter conclusion. Ethan traveled into the Romanian wilderness while searching for his infant daughter Rosemary, who had been kidnapped by Mother Miranda, the leader of a small village beset by lycan-like creatures. His daughter had been severed into four parts, each entrusted to one of the Lords of the village.

The first one, and by far the most popular, was Lady Dimitrescu. Though her role concluded far too quickly, the impact she likely left on the game and players lasted long after the credits rolled. She was ruthless in her pursuit of the player and genuinely heart-broken over the loss of her daughters. Despite her constant insults and the violence she perpetrated against poor Ethan, she was still a popular character for reasons beyond just her looks.
