Summary
- The World Nobles in One Piece are descendants of the 20 original kingdoms, which eventually became the Celestial Dragon clans.
- Not all Celestial Dragon families are inherently evil – some members have shown kindness and humanity.
- The origins, characteristics, and powers of each known Celestial Dragon family in One Piece are explored.
To most residents of the One Piece world, the Celestial Dragons are the scum of the Earth. The current world order has placed them at the upper echelons of society as the most powerful people since they are the descendants of the 20 original kingdoms that made this order in the first place. Their coalition to defeat the Ancient Kingdom 800 years ago was the basis for all the inequality that is found around the planet.
As such, there are 20 families of Celestial Dragons, all of whom still exist to this day in some form or fashion. Throughout the vast story of One Piece, only 10 of these families’ names have been revealed, with even fewer of them having any actual depth or backstory explored. Still, let’s take a look at all the named Celestial Dragon families and go over everything that is currently known about them.

Why One Piece Doesn’t Need Fights To Be Cool
Although some fans think differently, One Piece doesn’t need fights to be cool.
The Figarland Family
Some of the Most Important Celestial Dragons
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 1, “Romance Dawn – The Dawn of Adventure” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Figarland Garling, St. Figarland Shamrock, Shanks |
The Figarland family is perhaps the most well-known and beloved of all the Celestial Dragon families that have been seen in the series. Although Shanks was introduced in the very first chapter, his origins as a Celestial Dragon were only 100% confirmed in Chapter 1134 of the manga, though this was a huge topic of contention and debate among the community.
The Figarland family is incredibly influential and is implied to have been so since the founding of the World Government 800 years ago since the only 2 shown Supreme Commanders of the Gods’ Knights have been Garling and Shamrock, which seems to imply that this is a hereditary position. However, their original country remains a mystery, though they are confirmed to be one of, if not the, greatest clans of Celestial Dragons.
The Donquixote Family
A Vast Variety Of Celestial Dragons
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 233, “The World’s Greatest Power” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
Doflamingo, Corazon, St. Donquixote Mjosgard, St. Donquixote Homing |
The Donquixote family is the most interesting of all of the clans of World Nobles. This is because, while all Celestial Dragons are depraved and outright irredeemable, the Donquixote family is the only one that has some members who have found their humanity, other than the obvious example of Shanks. Of course, this doesn’t go for Doflamingo, who most regard as the most evil, and best, villain in all of One Piece.
However, Corazon, Mjosgard, and Homing were all kindhearted people and didn’t think of themselves as being superior to the common people, which is what prompted Homing to leave Marijoa in the first place, though Mjosgard only saw the error of his ways due to the actions of Queen Otohime. Unlike other families, the original home of the Donquixote is known, which is the country of Dressrosa that they abandoned to live in the Holy Land. In their stead, Dressrosa came to be ruled over by the Riku family.
The Shepherd Family
A High-Ranking Family
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 233, “The World’s Greatest Power” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Shepherd Ju Peter, St. Shepherd Summers |
The Shepherd family can be regarded as one of the most powerful Celestial Dragon clans due to one of their members being one of the 5 Elders, who are the public face of the World Government’s highest ranks. Currently, nothing is known about their original country or the true strength of the family, only that one of the members is a part of the Gorosei and the other is a Gods’ Knight.
The relationship between Ju Peter and Summers remains a mystery, with many convinced that they are brothers due to their likeness in appearance and age. However, it’s known that being promoted to the ranks of an Elder seems to grant immortality, which could mean that Ju Peter may have been promoted to the Warrior God of Agriculture in his youth many years ago, possibly even making him Summer’s elder.

The Rosward Family
Incredibly Cruel Celestial Dragons
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 497, “Adventure on the Archipelago of Dancing Soap Bubbles” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Rosward, St. Charlos, St. Shalria |
The very first confirmed Celestial Dragons that the heroes came across were the Rosward family during the Sabaody Archipelago arc. The image of these characters is the one everyone typically associates with Celestial Dragons as a whole, since they are cruel and sadistic people who delight in the suffering of others and even believe that the air of the common folk is tainted.
The only shown members of the family treated everyone else like dirt and believed themselves to be entitled to anything that they came across. Within the One Piece community, the son of the patriarch of the family, St. Charlos, is the most hated character in the series. Fans celebrate the moment when Luffy punched him across the face as one of the most satisfying in all of One Piece.
The Ethanbaron Family
The Family of the Warrior God of Finance
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 233, “The World’s Greatest Power” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro |
Due to the naming conventions of the Celestial Dragons all placing their family name before their own, this Elder seems to belong to the Ethanbaron family, though it is yet to be revealed if this is actually the name of this clan of Celestial Dragons. However, what is revealed is that the only known member of this family is one of the strongest characters in all of One Piece and serves as the Warrior God of Finance within the ranks of the 5 Elders.
V. Nusjuro served as one of the central antagonists in the Egghead arc along with the rest of his contemporaries, where he was shown with his incredible Bakotsu Yokai transformation which makes him the most martially adept of the 5 Elders. He likely also wields a Supreme Grade Sword which is notorious around the world as the Shodai Kitetsu, adding to his legend of being one of the greatest enemies that the heroes have to face in the Final War.
The Marcus Family
The Family of the Warrior God of the Environment
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 233, “The World’s Greatest Power” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Marcus Mars |
Just like with V. Nusjuro, the name of the family could just as easily be mistaken for the name of the Elder who belongs to it. St. Marcus Mars is the Warrior God of the Environment and is one of the highest-ranking officials of the World Government. Just like the other original 5 Elders, he was one of the central antagonists of the Egghead arc, where he debuted his incredibly formidable Itsumade Yokai form.
Unlike any of the other Yokai forms of the Elders, Mars is the only one who can fly due to his demonic transformation turning him into a massive bird-like creature. It’s unclear if this is due to a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit or a wholly new power system.

The Jaygarcia Family
The Family of the Warrior God of Science and Defense
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 233, “The World’s Greatest Power” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Jaygarcia Saturn |
Although Saturn was an antagonist just like all of the Elders on Egghead, he had more of a ‘main villain’ role since he was the one tasked with going to the island himself. Saturn’s Yokai transformation was that of the Gyuki, a demonic spider-like creature that had incredibly potent poison that could seemingly kill anyone.
Saturn used to be the Warrior God of Science and Defense among the ranks of the 5 Elders. However, due to Imu perceiving his actions and presence on Egghead to be a failure, they stripped Saturn of his powers and immortality, killing him on the spot. Imu believed that Saturn allowed Joyboy to escape and was the reason behind the release of his Haki from Emet, so he was killed and his position was given to Garling instead.
The Topman Family
The Family of the Warrior God of Justice
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 233, “The World’s Greatest Power” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Topman Warcury |
St. Topman Warcury is the Warrior God of Justice within the ranks of the 5 Elders. Just like the others, he also has a Yokai transformation which is known as the Fengxi. This is a demonic transformation that turns him into a towering warthog, which is also the most durable of all the Yokai transformations of the 5 Elders, so much so that even Luffy’s powerful Red Roc wasn’t enough to damage him at all.
In fact, Luffy ended up damaging his hand in the process, and when he used a Haki-infused punch while in Gear 5, it still didn’t do anything to Warcury and hurt Luffy’s hand again. Moreover, Warcury is also surprisingly fast and nimble for his size while in this form and can even let out Haki-infused roars that can incapacitate many characters at once.

The Limosiv Family
The Family of a Gods’ Knight
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 1140, “Scopper Gaban” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
St. Limosiv Qilingham |
The latest of the Celestial Dragon families to be shown in the series is the Limosiv family. The only known member is St. Qilingham, a member of the Gods’ Knights who was summoned onto Elbaf along with St. Summers in order to complete their mission, as Shamrock is needed back in Marijoa. Nothing more is known about this family, only that Qilingham seems to be using a powerful Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit which turns him into a creature from Chinses mythology known as a Qilin.
The Manmayer Family
A Mysterious Gods’ Knight From God Valley
First Appearance |
One Piece, Chapter 1096, “Kumachi” |
---|---|
Notable Members |
Unknown |
The only other family of Celestial Dragons whose name is known is the Manmayer family. However, everything else regarding them is a mystery. All that is revealed is that one of the members of this clan was a part of the Gods’ Knights 38 years ago during the God Valley Incident. There, she took place in the Native Hunting Competition but later likely helped the Gods’ Knights in the conflict against the pirates.
