Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze, Explained

Zoro, throughout the series, has quickly become one of the strongest fighters of One Piece. Through hard work and training, Zoro has become one of the strongest swordsmen of the series, surpassing some legendary figures that fans thought were untouchable in the past. With legendary attack power and durability, it’s no wonder why many regard Zoro to be the second strongest of the Straw Hat Crew, and among the strongest characters of One Piece in general.

Due to this, Zoro has a wide variety of swordsman techniques that are some of the most visually striking in the entire series, both for the characters in the story, and the fans watching it. One such technique, Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze in One Piece, was even strong enough to force the legendary pirate, Kaido, to potentially dodge. For many, the Flying Dragon Blaze is one of the coolest Zoro techniques in the series, despite only being used twice so far.

What Is Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze Attack In One Piece?

A Massive One-Sword Style Slash

Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze in One Piece is a one-sword style technique where Zoro grips a single sword with both hands. After this, Zoro leaps into the air before performing a single massive strike, usually in an attempt to finish the opponent off. After slicing the opponent, the slash wound ignites in flames, specifically blue flames in the One Piece anime. Although this isn’t Zoro’s most powerful technique, he has used it in two fights throughout the series to varying degrees of effectiveness.

The Flying Dragon Blaze was first used during the Thriller Bark Arc of One Piece during Zoro’s fight with the zombified version of Ryuma. During this scene, Zoro jumps into the air for an ariel clash with the zombified swordsman, slashing Ryuma. Afterward, Ryuma erupts into flames, finishing off the powerful opponent, and freeing Brook’s soul that was trapped inside. Additionally, after defeating Ryuma with the Flying Dragon Blaze, Zoro receives Shusui from the swordsman.

The second time this attack was used was during Onigashima in One Piece. In this scene, Zoro uses the attack against Kaido, once again leaping in the air to come down on his opponent with a single slash. However, now, Zoro’s powerful attack in One Piece is much stronger, being infused with both Armament Haki and Kin’emon’s Foxfire Style. Sending the attack in the form of a dragon at Kaido, Big Mom warns the Emperor of the attack’s lethality, forcing the captain of the Beast Pirates to dodge the attack. This legendary moment cemented Zoro as a threat to Emperors in One Piece, putting him on an entirely new legendary tier.

Even though Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze didn’t strike its target, it was powerful enough to slice off a large portion of the Skull Dome. Additionally, in the anime, the ability was shown to be strong enough to scratch the captain of the Beast Pirates, Kaido’s, cheek, implying that it may have been strong enough to deal some damage to Kaido. Finally, while performing the attack, it’s interesting to note as well that Kaido sensed the aura of Oden from Zoro’s blade, Enma, since the samurai was the previous wielder of the sword.

The Biggest Use Of This Attack May Have Missed

However, there are a few key things to note about Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze attack in One Piece. Some fans argue that, due to Zoro’s lack of mastery over his sword, Enma, Kaido didn’t need to dodge the attack, meaning Zoro simply missed. This is supported by the fact that Zoro himself claims that he missed right after the attack passed its target.

Although Zoro’s Flying Dragon Blaze isn’t one of the strongest attacks in One Piece, it definitely is one of the most visually interesting, using the imagery of dragons and fire very effectively. Additionally, this attack, for many fans, proved that Zoro was far stronger than most people give him credit for, boasting enough attack power to damage Kaido. Hopefully, fans will have the chance to see this legendary technique at least one more time before the end of One Piece.
