There’s a certain flow to any Monster Hunter game. You pick a hunt from the menu, you choose the right loadout, get your meal chowed down, and start the hunt. Beginning in your hub and heading out to the many localces to hunt has always been that structure. Monster Hunter Wilds has changed it, though.

Monster Hunter Wilds Review: Don’t Think, Just Hunt

Monster Hunter Wilds is a more approachable, if slightly more mindless Monster Hunter.

The introduction of Pop-Up Camps means you can hunt wherever and whenever you want, never needing to return to Base Camp to restock. You can’t plop down a camp just anywhere though, you have to find a suitable location. And there are lots of hidden ones to find in the Ruins of Wyveria.

What Are Pop-Up Camps?

a customised pop-up camp in the menu in monster hunter wilds.

For all intents and purposes, Pop-Up Camps offer the same functions as your own tent would back in any regional Base Camp. You can start hunts, change your equipment, cook a meal, and anything else, really. The only features you’re missing are those exclusive to Base Camp, such as Gemma’s smithing and the Provisions Stockpile.

There are two ways to set up a Pop-Up Camp, which are:

  • Speaking with the Felyne in charge of Pop-Up Camps in each Base Camp, and setting them up from the various locations you have discovered.
  • Setting them up yourself in the world by visiting the various locations and using the portable Camp set-up kit to call in a Felyne duo to create one immediately.

If you have reached the Pop-Up Camp limit in a region, you can only set up new ones by first removing old ones back at Base Camp.

You are far from the only life exploring the Forbidden Lands though, and many of these monsters don’t like humans stepping onto their turf. As such, any monster that comes across your camp will want to destroy it. If this happens, you just have to wait for it to be repaired automatically, or pay some Guild Points to have it repaired right away.

How Many Pop-Up Camps Are There In The Ruins Of Wyveria?

Every region has quite a few Pop-Up Camps that can be established, more than the maximum limit will ever allow. However, they also tend to dwindle as the later regions unlock. To that end, the Ruins of Wyveria is tied for the lowest number of Pop-Up Camps, seven, with the Iceshard Cliffs.

These camps are considerably well-hidden as well, meaning they are safe from monster attack at all times. Some consolation for how difficult they are to find.

Every Ruins Of Wyveria Pop-Up Camp Location

Of the seven Pop-Up camps you can find in the Ruins of Wyveria, two of them are set-up as part of the story, leaving the other five for you to discover yourself. Some of them are easy to find, though others are a bit more secluded. As such, here are some helpful directions to set you on the path of discovery.

Area 2: Crumbling Structures

This is the first camp you will unlock in Area 2, granted to you when you first enter the Ruins of Wyveria as part of the story.

Area 6: Secluded Ruins

This camp is found in Area 6 on the northern end, though quite out of the way. You must climb a set of vines that lead down a small corridor to this aptly-named camp site.

Area 6: Remnant Grove

This camp is found right in the centre of Area 6, beneath the boughs of the great white tree that Alma likes to comment on.

Area 6: Southeast

As the name implies, this camp is located in the southeast corner of Area 6, hidden by a small path only the Seikret can climb where the water flows from.

Area 8: Gap In Rubble

This camp is found in Area 8 as you being the spiral descent down to where the Guardians are created. It is found inside a small opening in the rubble, leading to a cave that opens up at the other end to connect back to Area 8.

You can also go fishing for some rare aquatic life here.

Area 9: Entangled Canopy

This is found further down the spiral in Area 9. Once again only reachable using the Seikret, this camp is also unlocked as part of the story, so there’s no missing it.

Just as you enter Area 13, there will be a drainage pipe with vines hanging out of it you can climb. Enter here to reach the Hidden Cave, and a lovely view of the Landspine.
