Warframe‘s 12th anniversary is on the horizon, and a new big update is being released alongside it. Techrot Encore, a continuation of Warframe‘s last expansion, will add a new Warframe, a new Adversary system, new Protoframes, and much more.
Warframe: 1999 was released at the tail end of 2024, adding a great chunk of new content that’s now getting its own continuation. In the tradition of Warframe‘s ‘Echoes’ updates (updates that build onto a prior expansion), Techrot Encore will release March 19—adding a second half to the 1999 storyline. Not only will this upcoming expansion bring a smorgasbord of new character options, but it will challenge players with the Technocyte Coda, a Techrot-infested band of imitation rockstars.

What Fans Can Expect From Warframe: Techrot Encore
Technocyte Coda
One of Techrot Encore’s main additions to Warframe will be the Technocyte Coda, a new Adversary system akin to the Kuva Liches introduced back in 2019, as well as the later Sister of Parvos adversary system. The Technocyte Encore is a band of biomechanical horrors that takes cues from the in-universe On-Lyne band that were popular in 1999, with 5 proto-Infested members for players to encounter. While a member of the band (or two in the case of a Duet) is active, players will be able to encounter them in any 1999 mission. Killing enough Coda will unlock the Technocyte Coda Showdown boss event, from which players can earn tokens; as opposed to the more random drops of prior Adversary events, players can exchange these tokens for the specific items they want.
New Warframe, New Protoframes
Techrot Encore will be adding a new Warframe in the form of Temple, the game’s 60th Warframe. Temple’s heavy glam-rock influences are exemplified in their kit, which involves a passive that encourages the player to keep up a rhythm. This passive consists of a metronome-like tick; when those using Temple activate an ability on-beat, that ability gets a special buff. Temple can deploy Infested minions to give out buffs and debuffs, summon walls of subwoofers, and temporarily turn their sapient guitar Lizzie into a flamethrower—abilities that can all be buffed if timed to the metronome’s beat.
Moreover, a handful of new Protoframes will be joining the Warframe: 1999 story with Techrot Encore. The four new Protoframes are the revolutionary artist Flare (Temple), military veterans and former lovers Minerva (Saryn) and Velimir II (Frost), and self-taught engineer Kaya (Nova). These Protoframes won’t be romanceable but will be receiving their own storylines and Gemini skins.
New Modes
That’s not all for the ways Encore will be expanding on Warframe: 1999, as a number of new modes will also be coming to the game. These include a new Defense mode in the form of Stage Defense, where the player will have to defend Flare’s tribute act to their fallen bandmates. Fans will also have to face off against a new version of Temporal Archimedea, where they’ll have to team up with Minerva and Velimir II to take on three random back-to-back missions. Kaya will allow access to the new Peely Pix system, which will let players add upgradable modifiers to change up this new Archimedea experience.
A new mode will also be coming to Warframe: 1999‘s Hollvania arcade. Ollie’s Crash Course, an Atomicycle-based racing minigame, will be available when Techrot Encore drops. Players will be able to rank up on leaderboards and customize their cycle in addition to its racing gameplay. The minigame marks an expansion to Warframe‘s Make-a-Wish commitments to James Conlin, who provides the voice for the Ollie character. The character and voice performance previously appeared in a smaller fashion when 1999 dropped.
