Sakamoto Days is one of the most talked-about anime series of 2025. Based on the manga of the same name, it has built a vast fanbase, which follows the series closely. Not so long ago, Sakamoto Days held a popularity poll to see which characters were most loved by the audience.
Last week, it was confirmed that Sakamoto Days would reveal the results of the poll in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 14/2025. Finally, the results are out, and there is one major shock. Sakamoto Taro, the main protagonist of the manga, has fallen out of the top 5 and finds himself in the eighth spot.

Sakamoto Days’ Popularity Poll Results Have Been Released
The main lead of a series being so low in popularity polls is unusual. Most manga protagonists still manage to finish in the top 3, even if they are supplanted by other characters. However, this is truly an anomaly. The full results of the popularity poll can be found below.
- Nagumo
- Shin
- Shishiba
- Osaragi
- Natsuki
- Rion
- Gaku
- Sakamoto
In the previous popularity poll, Sakamoto Taro finished in the fifth spot, but now he’s fallen even further down. It is worth noting that the characters who finished in the top 8 will get special stickers.
Sakamoto Taro being unable to dominate the popularity is not necessarily a bad thing. One way of looking at it is that Yuto Suzuki has created an unbelievably good cast of characters. The author’s hard work has made things so competitive that just being the main protagonist is not enough.
Sakamoto Days’ Anime Adaptation Is Polarizing
Sakamoto Days’ anime adaptation began airing on January 11, 2025. It had a strong debut as it shattered old Netflix records. Since then, the anime has consistently been in the top 10 most watched series on the streaming platform.
Despite its success, some fans are already calling for the anime to be remade from scratch. They want it to get the ‘Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood treatment.’ While it is true that Sakamoto Days does not have the same level of animation as Solo Leveling, it is important to remember that the latter is mainly focused on action. On the other hand, Sakamoto Days tackles many important real-life problems.
TMS Entertainment has done a respectable job of animating the series, but it can certainly do better. Instead of remaking the entire season, it is better if the studio puts in more effort into the second season of the anime.
Sakamoto Days is available to watch on Netflix.
