Hello Kitty has been on a roll lately, bringing her friends along for crossover promotions with all kinds of brands, from McDonald’s to Netflix to Razer. I’ve been reviewing Razer’s new Kuromi edition lineup, and so far the results have been positive.
Sure, you don’t really need to spend extra on the Ornata V3 TKL or the DeathAdder wired mouse, but so far the addition of Kuromi’s sassy vibes has created a unique offering among standard gaming accessory styles.
With a whopping $150 added to the price of Razer’s Enki X Kuromi Edition chair, can these two power brands really entice gamers to throw down on an attractive aesthetic? Razer has plenty of features and extra attention to detail built into this ergonomic chair, making the final decision another balancing act for gamers who love Kuromi or the Sanrio brand in general.

Packaging & Assembly
I’ve unboxed half a dozen chairs over the past year alone, so I know just how standardized packaging is, even if some companies manage to do it better than others. Razer’s packaging was on an entirely other level. I honestly couldn’t believe how impressed I was with the box for the Kuromi chair.
First and foremost, Razer has fun with their instructions, using illustrations to show proper lifting and how to use the chair safely. They are required to provide this information, yet they went the extra mile to make it fun to look over. That was just on the outside of the box, too.
After it was opened fully, I found the first layer was a poster-board-sized set of instructions. I’ve complained about map-sized instructions with controllers before, but there are two reasons why these comically large instructions were actually a great boon. The fact that it came as a full poster board meant that there was no wrestling with paper to get it opened and flattened. The rigidity of the poster board also meant that I could prop it on my couch while I assembled the chair in my living room.
This poster board also immediately let me know how easy assembly would be. There are just ten steps. If the images are too vague for you, Razer also has an extremely clear assembly video available on YouTube via the link provided on the instructions.
All of the parts were very well packaged, each part fully protected with durable foam, down to the hardware bits, which honestly could have just gone into a Ziploc bag. The chair does come with a slight disinfectant smell, but this went away within about a day, which I consider fairly quick.
Design & Adjustability
If you take nothing else away from this review, know that this chair is gorgeous!
Razer and Sanrio have combined forces to deliver an absolutely perfect color and motif design. I love all the details, from the shadow-gray crowns and diamonds to the bubblegum pink stars and skulls. Razer’s logo is raised, but very tiny, making Kuromi the star of the show on the back.
The two-toned design of the chair allows it to complement just about any space. The light lavender front is pretty and looks good next to a white PC or accessories. At the same time, the black backside lets the chair fit right in with darker setups while still providing a pop of color through Kuromi’s winking visage.
The Enki X offers the standard gamut of adjustability, allowing users to change the height, back angle, and tilt intensity. All of these settings are easy to change on the fly, too, thanks to familiar levers and knobs found on most gaming chairs.
Likewise, the armrests can be raised and lowered, as well as pivoted along a horizontal axis. The stiff build of the armrests ensures that they won’t move around when bumped accidentally either, which is a nice touch.
That being said, the armrests do get scuffed pretty easily. The scuffs wipe off, but usually call for a wet cloth. Otherwise, every time the arm rests hit your desk or bump into something by accident, they’re likely to get some cloudy marks on them.
One missed feature is adjustable lumbar support. The lumbar support is set near the base of the chair back, and you can’t move it. This affects the overall comfort of the chair.
Comfort & Ergonomics
I’ve been wanting to test out the Enki X for a while now, mostly because of the padded center the chair boasts. Not only does this quilt-like upholstery have an attractive design, it looks very comfortable. On that front, the Enki X Kuromi delivers, especially since the center is a pretty pastel purple, rather than the standard, boring black.
The finish on this padded seat section is also super-smooth and soft. It almost feels like velvet, but without any risk of static shock. The quilted padding lives up to expectations, as it really is very squishy and comfy, yet sturdy enough to provide ample support. The seat does get warm between your body and the EPU leatherette, but the back and sides of the chair stay fairly cool throughout long gaming sessions.
Further, the quilted seat does allow you to actually feel a difference in the airflow when adjusting, which makes the warm seat bearable and somewhat avoids unwanted stickiness during warm days.
The non-adjustable lumbar support remains a negative mark on the chair despite the luxurious-feeling padded center. You have to lean back to get the lumbar support aligned in such a way that it is actually supporting your back.
If you’re someone who prefers to lean back and relax while gaming, the Enki X’s lumbar section will still manage to support alignment between your back, neck and head. I think a headrest pillow would complete the experience, but even without one, the chair is well-designed for people of average height.
If, like me, you already have good posture and are constantly fighting to keep it, Kuromi’s chair is comfortable if you make some serious adjustment to your sitting style. Likewise, I think people who are taller than average might dislike the chair, again due to the lumbar support location. The chair seems to be designed specifically for the average gamer.
Is the Razer Enki X Kuromi Edition Gaming Chair Worth It?
For me, this chair is a bit of a mixed bag. Personally, I love the design and think that it’s uniquely feminine without going for the easy and obvious move of being bright pink. This also means that it fits in with gaming accessories much better than a lot of other cute options, particularly if you’re a budget gamer or simply prioritize function over style with most of your setup.
On the other hand, the lack of ergonomic design is a blow to the overall experience. The padded seat and supportive sides just can’t make up for an immobile lumbar support, especially for those with decent posture.
