Summary
- Gear 5’s power hasn’t been fully shown yet, indicating Luffy still has a long way to go!
- Gunko may not actually be a Celestial Dragon, hinting at a different origin.
- Gunko’s impatience and anger suggest she may become the toughest villain to fight.
In Chapter 1140 of the One Piece manga, a lot more light was shed upon the elusive Gods’ Knights and their members. As their mission was further revealed, St. Shepherd Summers and St. Qilingham Limosiv were called upon the island to enact the plan of weakening Elbaf to the point where it would be ripe for a hostile takeover by the World Government.
Due to this, the chapter showed 4 of the legendary Gods’ Knights on the island together, ensuring that the final battle against these villains will likely be the most difficult for the heroes to go up against in all of One Piece. However, some fans have noted something about Gunko that may hint at her origins being different from what was initially thought, so let’s take a look at why there may be more to her than meets the eye.

The end of Chapter 1134 of the One Piece manga was one of the most memorable in the entire franchise as it showed the arrival of 2 mysterious characters, one of whom confirmed the longstanding theory of Shanks having an evil twin. The other showed a girl wrapped in bandages, who was later revealed to be another of the Gods’ Knights named Gunko.
Initially, they planned to go to Loki in order to recruit him into their ranks, but upon failing to capture his loyalty, they left the premises after seemingly killing him. Eventually, Gunko summoned St. Qilingham and St. Summers to enact this plan as it was confirmed that Shamrock had to leave Elbaf to make his presence known in the Holy Land, which was still reeling from the effects of Monkey D. Dragon’s siege.
Throughout this entire debacle on Elbaf, fans noted many things about Gunko. Firstly, she was the only one of the Gods’ Knights who was introduced without the reveal of her Celestial Dragon clan, or the title of ‘Saint’ in her full name. More than this, her attitude when confronting and mercilessly beating Loki was notably different from the other Gods’ Knights, who all seemed very relaxed and chill about everything. This instance got fans theorizing about the fact that Gunko may not be a Celestial Dragon at all.
It is known that the Gods’ Knights don’t necessarily have to be Celestial Dragons since they were willing to recruit Loki into their ranks, which Gunko even considered to be a huge honor. Because of his refusal of the offer, she became enraged and proceeded to beat him mercilessly, which even Shamrock didn’t do, making many think that she is the only one of the Gods’ Knights who was made into a Celestial Dragon later on, so she always has a chip on her shoulder to prove herself to everyone else.
We are offering you a chance at divinity! Most die squirming in vain just for the slightest chance to attain such an honor!
Although all Celestial Dragons are incomparably arrogant and cruel, it makes sense for Gunko to revere their position even more than they themselves do since she views them as Gods but speaks from the perspective of once being a commoner. It’s also just as likely that Gunko never got the title of ‘Saint’, so that could mean that although she is permitted to live in Marijoa and has affiliations to the Celestial Dragons, it’s possible that those like her are still not entirely considered to be in their ranks.
The Gods’ Knights have planned to overthrow Elbaf and capture it for the World Government, presumably since the Void Century, but they have been unable to do so for 800 years. Because of this, they wanted to recruit Loki to be one of them due to the unrivaled power of his legendary Devil Fruit, so it’s just as probable that Gunko was also likely recruited for her amazing strength. Because of all of these facts, it’s very possible that Gunko may not be a Celestial Dragon like the other Gods’ Knights are.

One Piece’s multiple plotlines are what make it so interesting. But some of those narratives have yet to be resolved.
What This Could Mean For Her In The Future
Gunko’s Fate On Elbaf
At the current stage, it seems that Gunko is the most impatient and quickest to anger out of all the Gods’ Knights, as can be seen by her attitude towards Loki. Because of this, fans believe that she will be the most staunch of all the Celestial Dragons to complete the mission and will be the most violent in her approach, which would make her a very tough villain to fight.
However, an opposite camp believes that, if the theory about her not being a true Celestial Dragon ends up being true, then she may be a little sympathetic to the cause of the heroes. Because of this, she may also change sides and help the heroes against the Gods’ Knights. However, this is very unlikely and is pure speculation at this point, so fans just have to wait to see what Oda has planned for this character.
