A “brand-mew” trailer of the anime adaptation of Hawkman and Mecha-Roots’ Nyaight of the Living Cat warns of a “nyandemic” coming later this year. The exact premiere date has not yet been announced, but you have been warned to take precaution. Do not pet them, do not hug them, do not boop their noses because the world will be overrun by cats and a strange virus will turn people into them.
The cat-astrophe is set to broadcast this July, with Crunchyroll streaming the series worldwide except in Asia, with Sony Pictures Entertainment will be distributing in Asia and Japan.

Plot, Staff and Background Information
Nyaight of the Living Cat is a spoof of Night of the Living Dead and zombie movies in general, in which the world is overrun by cats after a strange virus turns anyone who makes contact with a cat into one. The problem is resisting the urge to pet them when they inevitably show up. The series is produced by staff at OLM (The Apothecary Diaries), with veteran director Takashi Miike (Ichi The Killer; Audition; 13 Assassins) serving as executive director, Tomohiro Kamitani as director, screenplay by Shingo Irie (Orb: On the Movements of the Earth), character designs by Takao Maki (Basilisk: The Ouga Ninja Scrolls) and music by Koji Endo (Audition). The Japanese voice cast of Nyaight of the Living Cat, as well as brief descriptions of their roles have also been revealed:
- Masaaki Mizunaka (Ryuen Kakeru in Classroom of the Elite) as Kunagi, a cat café employee with amnesia whose identity is shrouded in mystery. He loves cats and has superhuman physical abilities.
- Reina Ueda (Cha Hae-in in Solo Leveling) as Kaoru, a high school student attending Sabion High School. She loves cats. She works as a shop assistant at the cat cafe “Megokoro Nekome” run by her brother.
- Reiji Kawashima (Fushi in To Your Eternity) as Arata, a former track and field athlete and ninja-obsessed university student. He loves cats. He was saved by Kunagi just before turning into a cat, and he came to adore him and call him “Aniki” (“older brother”)
- Yu Serizawa (Mini Yaemori in Rent-A-Girlfriend) as Tsutsumi. She attends the same Sabioto High School as Kaoru. She loves cats, but is allergic to them, although this sometimes opens up unexpected paths for her.
- Subaru Kimura (Aoi Todo in JUJUTSU KAISEN) as Len Ward, the eldest son of the Ward family. He loves cats. This legendary family is said to have defended their base from cats for three days and three nights without sleep. He is a physically strong man with a bold personality.
