Scream 7 Fan Theory Explains The Return Of This OG Character

A Scream fan shared a theory about bringing back one OG character confirmed to return in Scream 7.

Drew Barrymore spoke about her daughters Frankie and Olive’s reaction after they watched Scream on Wednesday’s episode of Drew News. The Scream OG told her cohosts Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Matthews that she doesn’t pressure her kids to watch her movies, which they adorably called “mom movies.” The Stand In star wants her kids to discover the slasher on their own. However, she was surprised when they told her they had already watched it and they loved her performance. Barrymore’s children even complimented her. Barrymore said of her kids’ reaction, per Entertainment Weekly:

They came home the other day and said they watched Scream, and they were like, ‘Mom, you got it so good in that movie! Oh my God!’

According to the Ever After actress, Frankie and Olive were with their girlfriends and had a sleepover while watching the film. Her eldest daughter, Olive, even planned to use her character as an inspiration for a future Halloween costume when she’s grown up. “I think Olive said, ‘When I get a boyfriend in high school, that’s gonna be our Halloween costume. He’ll be Steve and I’ll be you,” Barrymore continued. “I know! My kids are old enough now to say things to me and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool!'” Barrymore has a short screen time in Scream. She plays Casey Becker, who appears in the opening scene, but her appearance sets the tone for the film. Although she wasn’t among the main cast, Barrymore was the biggest name in the cast and she was prominently featured in the posters and promo materials at the time.

It’s very sweet of Barrymore’s daughters to compliment her for her performance in Scream. She only appeared in the first 10 minutes of the film, but it left an impression because the audience was shocked when she was killed right there and then. Many expected Barrymore to be among the leads because she was front and center during the movie’s promotion, so her brutal death shocked the audience. Also, her death was graphic and Barrymore’s realistic acting only made it even more unsettling. The arrival of her parents seconds too late also made the scene all the more heartbreaking.

Scream movies always start the film with killing in its first 10 minutes to grab the audience’s attention. This has been the trend in all Scream films. The death in the opening scene is often unexpected and intense, ensuring the audience is fully engaged when the story unfolds. In the original movie, Barrymore’s character, Casey, received a mysterious phone call. The caller is playful and even flirts with her, but the conversation shifts when the caller threatens her and she sees that her boyfriend, Steve, is tied up outside and is killed after she fails to answer a horror trivia question. Casey tries to escape, but Ghostface breaks into her home, catches her and stabs her multiple times, then hangs her body from a tree. The scene is quite brutal, but Barrymore’s kids are already 10 and 12 and at that age, many are inclined to watch horror movies, which may be the reason their mom’s scene appeals to them.

Scream 7 will hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
