- Hiddleston is open to an MCU return, with fans hoping for Loki’s comeback in multiverse-themed Avengers movies.
Two Avengers movies are in the pipeline, and fans are eager to know who will return from the actors who appeared in the previous films. Tom Hiddleston, who has appeared in multiple Avengers films, was asked about Loki’s potential appearance in the anticipated MCU tentpoles, and his response was vague.
Hiddleston made his debut as Loki, Thor’s adoptive brother, in the 2011 movie Thor. He has since reprised the role in several MCU films, including The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In Endgame, a past version of Loki escaped with the Tesseract, setting up the Loki series, which Hiddleston headlined. Loki was well-received and it ran for two seasons, but despite the positive reception, Marvel Studios has not announced any additional seasons. Fans have been missing Hiddleston’s trickster god, so they want to know if he will make an MCU comeback through the next Avengers movies, but his response wasn’t as promising.

Avengers: Doomsday will start production in two months, but the screenplay is still in the works.
In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, Hiddleston meets his fans and signs autographs. One asked him if he would appear in Doomsday or Secret Wars. “I don’t know,” he responded while shaking his head. However, fans were convinced he was fully aware of whether he would be part of the upcoming Avengers films but didn’t want to leak it. Marvel stars rarely share any progress about the projects they work on, especially about their casting in related movies unless it’s done officially. Fans are aware of this, so many do not accept Hiddleston’s response as it is. “We know that even if Tom is in the movie, he would never talk about it, if there’s one thing he knows how to keep well, it’s a secret,” one commented. Another added, “MCU people can never tell! LOL.”
Hiddleston has been attached to his MCU character for over a decade already. However, when Loki Season 2 concluded, he admitted that he was “very satisfied” with the ending. When it comes to a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Life of Chuck star admits that he isn’t closing doors. In an interview with The Wrap in November 2023, he recounted bidding goodbye to the character and writing “thank you notes” for those he worked with at Marvel Studios. They told him to visit them as he would “always be part of the family. “A year later, they contacted him about the Loki series, and from then on, Hiddleston said he has always kept his door open for the MCU. He said:
So I think at this point, I keep an open heart and an open mind. I’m really pleased with where we landed — it feels significant and profound and correct. But time will tell, I suppose.
Hiddleston is an essential figure in the MCU and fans love his portrayal of Loki. His charismatic and nuanced performance earned him a solid fanbase who wants to see him on the big screen again. Loki also plays a significant role in the multiverse saga, the series Loki, even positioned him as a pivotal character in the MCU’s exploration of the multiverse. Had the MCU pursued the Kang the Conqueror storyline, Loki’s inclusion in the movie would have made sense as it would have offered continuity and depth to the narrative. Despite the changes, Doomsday and Secret Wars are set to explore multiverse themes, so there’s still space for Hiddleston’s Loki. Hopefully, he will return in the film because MCU was able to pull strings to have Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans back. So, they can do the same for Hiddleston if they want it.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on May 1, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will premiere on May 7, 2027.
