How To Use The Support Ship In Monster Hunter Wilds

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it turns out it also takes a village to supply a hunter. Monster Hunter WIlds can sometimes make you feel like you’re one lonely hunter against the world, but the truth all the communities and tribes spread across the Forbidden Lands have your back – if you know how to ask that is.

Here are the best subspecies in the Monster Hunter series!

Between item traders, material retrieval, and festival shares, there are all kinds of ways to get useful items from the friends you make in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, one of the best sources for materials also happens to be the most elusive.

Where Is The Support Ship?

Santiago the support ship vendor in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The Support Ship can be found at the Windward Plains base camp. You’ll find the ship docked at the rear end of camp, but the actual vendor for the ship sits right across from your camp, catty-corner from Jack, the Provisions Stockpile vendor.

The vendor, Santiago, wears a blond ponytail and a red jacket over a white shirt. You’ll find him crouched down and holding an inventory log on top of the stockpile.

It’s important to note that the Support Ship isn’t always available to shop at. The ship takes periodic trips back to the guild to retrieve more items to sell to you, and during this time you won’t see the ship or Santiago at the Winward Plains base camp. When the ship returns you’ll get a notification in the bottom right of your screen.

It’s recommended that you visit the Support Ship as soon as it returns, especially if there’s something specific you’re hoping to buy.

How Does The Support Ship Work?

The support ship purchase list in Monster Hunter Wilds.

If you played Monster Hunter World, the Support Ship functions very similarly to the Argosy.

Whenever the Support Ship is in port, you can interact with Santiago to browse the ship’s selection of goods. The ship has a wide variety of items, including consumables, monster parts, slinger pods, and even weapons. The items in the support shop cost research points rather than zenny. You can earn research points by completing missions, hunting monsters, and picking up rare objects out in the field.

There are two numbers next to each item in the Support Ship’s purchase list. The green number is how many Research Points each item costs and the white number is how many of each item it has in stock. Once you’ve bought all of the ship’s stock, it won’t have any more of that item until it leaves and returns at another time.

The items available in the Support Ship will be somewhat random each time it visits, but you can request that Santiago bring back specific categories of items the next time he visits.

How To Customize The Support Ship

The Support ship request board in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Santiago offers three categories of items, and whenever he visits you can change what types of items the Support Ship will return with the next time it visits. Here are all the request options.

Goods Type

Description

Medicinal Items

Mostly comprised of highly effective medicinal items.

Equipment Materials

Mostly comprised of materials for forging weapons and armor.

Misc. Items

Mostly comprised of special items, such as equipment, hunting items, and trade-in items.

Any

A balanced set of items.

While these categories are fairly self-explanatory, there is some nuance in the choices being offered here that is worth considering.

  • Medicinal items, like mega potions, catalysts, and herbal powder, are technically easy to come by but are also the most generally useful. You can never have enough potions and recipe ingredients, so ordering these items from the Support Ship can be a great way to supplement the collection of items you forage yourself.
  • If you select Equipment Materials, the ship will bring you a random assortment of monster parts. While it’s possible to get some really rare materials like wyvern gems and plates, you’re more likely to get parts for equipment you don’t need. That doesn’t mean these parts are useful though, as you can always sell them for Zenny or exchange them for armor spheres in Azuz.
  • Misc. Items are weapons, hunting items like shock traps and flash pods, and trade-in items you can use at the Melding Pot or sell for extra zenny. This may seem like the riskiest category, but it can be fun to see the weapons the ship brings back, and it may even inspire you to try a new build.
    • Keep in mind these are going to be the most expensive items, so it’s only recommended you choose this bundle if you have an excess of research points.

You’re free to change your request each time the Support Ship visits, so make sure you’re requesting items you actually need and visiting the support ship as often as possible.
