How To Get One Last Trick Unique Arquebus (Steel Resolve Quest)



Steel Resolve is one of the longest side quests in Avowed, mostly due to its mission markers requiring players to travel to distant areas of the map. This quest requires players to track down a traitor within the rangers and put a stop to them. You’ll have to make some tough choices, which will have a major impact on the overarching story of the game. As a reward, players will get their hands on the One Last Trick, one of the most sought-after guns.

How to Start Steel Resolve Quest in Avowed

Players can start the Steel Resolve quest by meeting Ranger Acierno at the Ranger Headquarters in the Emerald Stair region of Avowed. The Ranger Headquarters is located towards the east of Fior Mes Iverno. You can only access this quest if you haven’t completed the Ancient Soil main quest.

After speaking to Ranger Acierno, she’ll direct players to investigate the missing rangers by speaking to two suspects, Ranger Casagrada and Dorso.

Rescue Ranger Verano from Bandit Camp

First, players must reach the Fior docks to talk to Ranger Casagrada. He’ll share how he and Ranger Verano were exploring a camp near an abandoned house before he disappeared, possibly captured.

So, head to the quest marker to reach a bandit camp. You’ll need to fight off the initial wave of bandits and reach further inside the camp to face off against Big Wylie Tranton and his family of drawven warriors. Once everyone’s defeated, make sure to collect trophies from their bodies, as this is also a bounty.

Now, use a freeze spell or a bomb to free Ranger Verano from captivity. He’ll thank the Envoy, and Ranger Casagrada’s objective will be completed in the Steel Resolve quest in Avowed.

Investigate the Ogre’s Cave & Find a Root-Strangled Tree

Next, you can head over to Fior Mes Iverno’s entrance and talk to Ranger Dorso. She’ll direct players to investigate an Ogre Cave in the Grim Wetlands.

So, head over to the location, and on the path, you’ll come across a locked door with an electrical mechanism. While facing the door, break the boards on the right to reveal an electric panel that you can use electric bombs on spells to activate. The second panel is located directly opposite the door on a rock face.

Once both panels are activated, head up the wooden platforms and into the cave to fight the ogre boss Ulrask in Avowed. There will be several minions spawning around the boss, so make sure to quickly dispatch them while damaging the boss. Once the boss is taken down, interact with the body in the middle of the cave to get the Journal of Ranger Monato

After taking the journal, players will be directed to search for a root-strangled tree in the Wildwoods. After arriving at the location, you’ll find some enemies gathered around a tree. You can ignore the enemies and check inside the tree roots at the back to find the Clandestine Note

Should You Attack or Spare Ranger Dorso?

Once all the evidence against Ranger Dorso is gathered, you’ll need to confront her near the waterfall. Players have a choice to either fight her, help her, or simply exile her from Emerald Stair.

Keeping her alive can impact the story and relationships with your companions negatively, so you should pass swift justice and defeat her in combat. After she’s taken care of, loot her body to get an exceptional dagger alongside other loot.

There’s a secret objective that you can complete after taking care of Ranger Dorso by entering the Waterfall Cave on the right. This will impact the fate of Fior Mes Iverno in the upcoming events.

Head back to the Ranger Headquarters and break the news to Ranger Acierno. Regardless of the choice of dialog, Ranger Massoni will reward players with the One Last Trick

unique Arquebus. This will also mark the Steel Resolve quest in Avowed as completed.
