Herbivore Shells are an Equipment Material in Monster Hunter Wilds that players may eventually need. Fortunately, it is not particularly difficult to obtain this material, provided that the player is familiar with its source. This guide is here to provide that familiarity, and it will make it easy for players to earn Herbivore Shells in Monster Hunter Wilds.
While the two methods that are detailed in this guide should allow players to get all the Herbivore Shells that they need, it is likely that there are other ways to obtain this Equipment Material in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Herbivore Shell Location in Monster Hunter Wilds
Ceratonoth
Herbivore Shells can be harvested from the carcasses of Ceratonoth. These docile, scaled creatures can be found in packs in the Windward Plains, the first ecosystem in Monster Hunter Wilds, and Areas 1, 8, 11, and 12 are all great places to look for them. For full clarity, those areas have been marked on the preceding map, and players who visit them should have little trouble finding a group of Ceratonoth.
Players may be able to track Ceratonoth with the help of in-game map filters. To use that feature, players should open the map, select “Filter Icons” in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and then navigate to the “Small Monsters” section. Players may then be able to select Ceratonoth and drop a waypoint on one’s position.
Once a player has located a pack of Ceratonoth, they should proceed to unsheathe their preferred weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds and slay the creatures. Notably, a herd of Ceratonoth is likely to run as soon as one of its members has been attacked, and players may need to mount their Seikrets and chase them.
After dispatching some Ceratonoth, players should approach the carcasses and press the input that appears to harvest the monsters’ materials. Players should then simply repeat this process until they have the quantity of Herbivore Shells that are required for crafting the items of interest.
While players can harvest Herbivore Shells from both male and female Ceratonoth, neither awards the material 100% of the time. Indeed, Monster Hunter players will occasionally receive Raw Meat when carving these creatures, though they should still accumulate Herbivore Shells quickly, due to the dense packs within which Ceratonoth travel.
Item Trade in Kunafa Windsong Village
After spending just a bit of time working through Monster Hunter Wilds‘ main quest, players will gain access to Kunafa, Windsong Village in the Windward Plains. There is an NPC named Kilama in this village, and she is willing to give players Herbivore Shells in exchange for Sandpepper. Notably, Kilama’s position within Windsong Village changes, though she is marked with an icon on the in-game map, making it easy to find her at all times.
With respect to where players can procure the Sandpepper that Kilama wants, it can be harvested in the Windward Plains. More specifically, it can be found around the water in Area 8, and it appears as green question marks on the in-game map. Fortunately, Area 8 is also a good place to look for Ceratonoth, making it a great area to visit when attempting to earn Herbivore Shells.
