Summary
- New Fable gameplay footage shows off some locations from the game.
- One of these areas looks a lot like Bowerstone, with Fairfax Castle in the background.
- This suggests the game will be set close to Fable 2, perhaps between that and the first entry.
It was confirmed earlier this week that the long-awaited Fable revival has been delayed into 2026. To soften the blow, we were given a look at some pre-alpha gameplay, showing us how the long-awaited game is coming along.
The footage isn’t much, not even coming to a minute in length, but it’s enough for fans to dive into. And as it happens, one particular shot we see of a bustling city may have given us a better idea of when and where the game is set, as it looks an awful lot like Fable 2-era Bowerstone.
New Fable Trailer Seemingly Confirms Bowerstone
And with Fairfax Castle there, this could be set just before Fable 2
As pointed out by Reddit user Final-Bike-8437, this shot shows a castle that looks just like the one we see in Bowerstone in Fable 2. This is clearly distinct from Bowerstone Manor from the first entry, which Fairfax Castle was built upon between the two games, suggesting that this Fable game is set closer to the sequel.
This also appears to unconfirm suspicions that Fable would follow on from Fable 3. The castle has been completely renovated by the time of Fable 3, to the point of being practically unrecognisable. So, this must be the castle either before the events of Fable 2, or immediately afterwards, and since there are only 50 years between 2 and 3, this game being set before would be a safer bet.
If this was post-Fable 3, Albion would probably look much more industrialised too, since that game made quite a lot of changes to Albion.
Of course, this is all assuming that Fable will be in the same timeline as the previous games. Since this is not a numbered entry, there’s a chance that this is more of a reboot, with the original trilogy no longer being canon. However, it can be argued that this wouldn’t really be necessary – the people of Albion have been quick to forget their history before, so you could comfortably set a game between the first two entries and it wouldn’t create too many issues.
Regardless, it definitely looks like Bowerstone will be part of the new Fable, even if the series is being rebooted. It remains to be seen if any other locations from previous games are included in the revival.
