There are plenty of weaker, joke-characters in One Piece that have quickly become fan favorites in the community. With Usopp of the Straw Hat Crew being the strongest example, these hilarious, yet often cowardly, characters show that, oftentimes, in One Piece, power isn’t necessarily everything. Still, while pirates like Buggy and Usopp are funny to watch, sadly, it seems that their potential strength in the series is diminished due to their role as comedic characters.
However, although some fans believe these characters will be relegated to joke duty forever, others believe that there may be some hope for one of One Piece’s weakest characters to finally have the chance to show off his true strength. Mainly, many believe that the current Emperor of the Sea, Buggy the Clown, despite being defeated early in the series by Luffy at the very beginning of his adventure, may prove himself to be much stronger than most fans expect. Although this may be played as a gag, by the end of the series, Buggy may be deserving of his role of Emperor of the Sea.

Buggy Is Weak But Successful In One Piece

Although Buggy has become an Emperor of the Sea in One Piece, the character himself is still around the same level he was during his initial encounter with Luffy in the first arc of the series. Oftentimes, his meteoric rise to power has been played for laughs, showing that anyone can succeed in the world of One Piece with enough passion and belief in their dreams. Still, in almost every scene he’s in, most characters in the series remind fans how weak Buggy is, with characters like Mihawk and Crocodile easily beating him up.

However, at the same time, despite his shortcomings and cowardice, Buggy actually has a fair bit of strength. Possessing fairly strong weaponry, like the Buggy Balls, and a decently powerful Devil Fruit, One Piece’s Chop-Chop Fruit, Buggy was able to survive the Paramount War and Impel Down, even after facing off directly with extremely strong foes, like Mihawk, a character who many fans consider to be one of the strongest in the series.

However, some fans believe that just as Buggy lucked his way into becoming an Emperor of the Sea, Buggy will also luck his way into becoming incredibly powerful. Although it may seem unlikely, there is a possibility that Buggy may accidentally awaken his Devil Fruit in the Final War of One Piece.
