Captain America: Brave New World has performed better than expected at the box office, especially on its opening weekend. This has boosted one of its stars’ financial status.

Captain America: Brave New World made a notable performance since its release compared to other MCU movies. It made $88.8 million domestically and approximately $181.2 million worldwide during its opening weekend. As of February 24, 2025, its domestic gross is $147.2 million, and its international gross is $148.4 million, for a total of $295.6 million. Captain America: Brave New World’s Wings Get Clipped As The Movie Suffers A Massive Second Week Drop At The Box Office

Captain America: Brave New World had a good start, but its second week at the box office wasn’t as impressive.

Captain America: Brave New World has dominated this month’s box office and despite the 68% drop in ticket sales in the second week, the MCU tentpole has raised Harrison Ford’s rank in the list of Top Stars at the Worldwide Box Office. The Red Hulk star already surpassed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and is expected to overtake Johnny Depp too, per Collider. The Indiana Jones actor is only $11 million behind the Pirates of the Caribbean superstar, with Depp at the 44th spot and Harrison following closely at 45th. Considering the Brave New World’s performance at the box office, the film made $12 million domestically last week, so the film will likely take Ford to the 44th spot by the end of the week. The next actor before Ford is Simon Pegg. However, there’s a $50 million gap between them.

In total, the Captain America series has already crossed the $2.5 billion mark globally. However, nearly half of the earnings were from Evans’ Captain America: Civil War in 2016, which earned $1.1 billion. Per Box Office Mojo, Civil War made the most from all of the Captain America movies with a lifetime gross of $408 million. On the second and third spots are Captain America: The Winter Soldier with $260 million and Captain America: The First Avenger with $177 million. Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World is at the fourth spot with $147 million. This could still change, but Brave New World is unlikely to overtake Evans’ Civil War and The Winter Soldier.

Although Ford is close to surpassing Depp in the list of highest-earning leading actors at the worldwide box office, that still remains to be seen and will be confirmed over the weekend. Also, it might not take long for Depp to reclaim his spot if rumors are true that he is returning to the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise. A source previously claimed that the next Pirates movie will feature the return of Depp as the fan-favorite Captain Jack Sparrow. The Pirates franchise dominates Depp’s highest-earning projects, especially the Dead Man’s Chest (2006), which made $1.066 billion. Pirates boosted Depp’s financial status, making him one of the top earners in Hollywood.

During the defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp shared that he lost a $22.5 million deal when Disney dropped him in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie due to Heard’s allegation that he was an abusive husband Depp won the lawsuit after the jury found that Heard indeed defamed him in her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post. Regardless of how Brave New World will change Ford’s ranking in the list of worldwide highest-earners, the actor said playing Red Hulk in the movie wasn’t that challenging. “It didn’t seem to me to be a terribly difficult acting proposition,” Ford told Empire.

Captain America: Brave New World is still showing.
