Born Again Adds Scream Star Matthew Lillard For Season 2

Daredevil: Born Again is about to take the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a whole new direction, and the franchise’s new darling is already stacking the card ahead of its upcoming second season with a familiar face that’ll have fans screaming.

Daredevil: Born Again has come a long way from the tentatively approved revival project in need of a creative overhaul, with the most recent advance screenings for the show singing its praises. Following Marvel Studios’ real life kingpin Kevin Fiege’s drastic creative choice, it was retooled and brought in way more of the things that made the original show distinct. Despite being brought into the generally family-friendly MCU and premiering on Disney+, Born Again was even touted by execs and creatives during its production as being even more gritty and brutal than its Netflix-era predecessor. All indicators seem to bear this out, so much so that this aspect of the new show even surprised leading man Charlie Cox. While there was a lot of excitement surrounding the casting for the show’s first season after the overhaul, the second season is now in production and the show has added a horrifyingly big star to the call list for that upcoming installment. As exclusively revealed by Deadline, Hollywood star Matthew Lillard has been added to the cast of Daredevil: Born Again ahead of its upcoming second season, which was recently confirmed for a 2026 release window on Disney+ and started filming late this week. Lillard is a fan favorite with an impressive filmography, most notably starring in the original Scream film from 1996 as one of the original villains of the now-iconic horror franchise. There are no specifics on what role Lillard could be playing in the show’s second season as everything is being kept under wraps at Marvel Studios, but fans can look forward to more details on his role emerging as the second installment draws nearer.

Lillard has had a stellar career, and has seen a recent resurgence in casting following his role in Five Nights At Freddy’s, with the actor also recently being brought back for Scream 7 as part of the film’s all-out approach to bringing in the fans. With the range he’s shown over the years, there’s no doubt he’ll be able to take on his role in Born Again to great effect. Additionally, netting another big name for the show that isn’t well-known for their role in the Netflix show is good for the show’s potential reach and marketing.

Lillard’s casting is the latest in a landslide of great news for the show, with it also being rumored that season two will bring a reunion between two of Marvel’s Defenders among others. All signs seem to indicate that Daredevil: Born Again will be the MCU’s best Disney+ show, and if the upcoming second season can live up to the potential it has and offer fans a massive payoff like Vincent D’Onofrio promised, then it could surpass the first installment and firmly establish the franchise’s new grounded heroes and criminal underworld as a vital part of the MCU’s revival and new direction post-2023.
