The latest Pokemon Presents event ended with the first-ever gameplay trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The trailer confirmed that the starter Pokemon for the new game are Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. It also revealed that the game is set in a version of Lumiose City that’s undergoing “high-tech urban redevelopment” with special wild zones set up for wild Pokemon to thrive in the city. Players stay at a hotel run by Pokemon X and Y‘s AZ and his Floette, while also interacting with their friend Urbain/Taunie. The trailer also confirmed that battles have been tweaked so that moves have longer or shorter reach and different areas of effect, making timing and positioning more important than Legends: Arceus. Those excited to play Pokemon Legends: Z-A for themselves should note that the game is not scheduled to release until late 2025.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Starter Pokemon

  • Chikorita (Grass-type)
  • Tepig (Fire-type)
  • Totodile (Water-type)

It’s likely that many Pokemon fans will be surprised by the Legends: Z-A starter Pokemon. There were many Pokemon Legends: Z-A starter theories and rumors leading up to their reveal, with the running theory being that the starters would be X and Y starters Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Pretty much no one was guessing that the Legends: Z-A starters would instead be made up of two Johto region Pokemon (Chikorita and Totodile) and one Unova region Pokemon (Tepig).

The trailer also didn’t reveal whether these starters will have different final evolutions, like the Pokemon Legends: Arceus starters, or if they will instead get their own Mega Evolutions. Clearly, there are still a lot of details left to reveal about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and with the game not launching until late 2025, it may be some time before fans find out more about the project.
