Season 2 of Netflix’s critically acclaimed dystopian thriller series, Squid Game, ended on an intense cliffhanger that left fans around the world asking for more. Fortunately for them, however, they won’t have to wait for long, as the streaming giant will release the third and final season on June 27, 2025.

Nevertheless, they are still dying to know what is going to happen to their favorite characters, like Seong Gi-Hun, Hwang In-ho, or Cho Hyun-ju. While all they can do at the moment is wait, there are already many accurate predictions of the events that will most likely occur during Squid Game Season 3 and these are the most interesting ones.

The Iconic Game Will Be Repeated But With A Twist

There’s no denying that Red Light, Green Light is the most recognizable game in all of Squid Game, as it served as the opening act for the games in both seasons. Of course, the show hasn’t repeated a single game yet, but it seems like Season 3 is finally going to break that tradition.

Promotional material and the mid-credits scene of Season 2’s final episode have revealed that there’s another animatronic doll called Cheol-su, who will accompany the iconic Young-hee in what’s slowly shaping up to be Season 3’s deadliest game so far. It seems players will be forced to freeze to avoid the vision of two uncanny dolls at the same time, a huge challenge that will certainly end in the abrupt deaths of many beloved characters.

Kang Dae-Ho Will Regret His Actions In The Last Episode

Park Jung-Bae’s Death Will Have A Huge Impact On Him

During Season 2’s climactic shootout, Kang Dae-Ho was supposed to go back to the dormitories to collect more ammunition from the dead Pink Soldiers, but the situation overwhelmed him, which led him to suddenly suffer a panic attack that prevented him from moving. This sole mistake played a huge part in the failure of the rebellion, and it indirectly caused the death of Gi-Hun’s good friend, Park Jung-Bae.

Netflix has already revealed a few images from Season 3, and one of them shows the surviving characters reacting to the coffin of an unseen person. It most likely contains the corpse of Jung-bae, something that will greatly affect Dae-ho’s mental state. After all, Gi-Hun’s friend was like a mentor to him because they were both former Marines, and he will most likely end up blaming himself for his gruesome death.

Their Complicated Mother-Son Relationship Won’t Last Much Longer

Squid Game is infamous for being one of those shows in which the viewer can’t get attached to a character because they will most likely die before the end of the season. Season 2 introduced two new players named Jang Geum-Ja and Park Yong-Sik, a mother-son duo who entered the games without the other one knowing.

The fact that both of them have managed to survive so far is nothing short of a miracle, but their relationship is already at stake, especially after Yong-sik failed to save his mother during Mingle, and after he voted to stay on more than one occasion. Due to the ruthless nature of this show, it’s very easy to assume that either the mother or the son are going to die at one point in Season 3. The only question is who is going to meet their end first, and how the other one is going to react.

Someone Will Kill Nam-Gyu

One Of The Show’s Most Despicable Villains Will Have A Violent Death

Two antagonistic players were introduced in Squid Game Season 2: Choi Su-bong – better known as Thanos – and his henchman, Nam-gyu. While the former entertained audiences with his over-the-top antics, the latter became one of the show’s most hated characters, especially after he stabbed Se-Mi to death in front of Min-su during the special game.

Thanos was an entertaining villain, so it’s a real shame that he was unceremoniously killed off during the bathroom brawl. Nevertheless, Nam-gyu is still alive and in possession of his dead friend’s drugs, so he is definitely going to spend most of Season 3 terrorizing the other players, both during the games and between them. This will lead to his inevitable death, which will most likely be caused by another character, like Min-su or Myung-gi.

Kang No-Eul Will Save Park Gyeong-Seok

A Controversial Character That Will Seek Her Redemption

Season 2 did something fascinating and refreshing by introducing the character of Kang No-Eul, a North Korean defector who was hired to work as a Pink Soldier during the 2024 games. This allowed the writers to show how they work from the inside, while also showing a more ruthless (albeit human) side of the soldiers.

But No-Eul grew attached to Player 246, Park Gyeong-seok, the father of a young girl suffering from cancer who she met when she was working at a theme park. Gyeong-seok was seemingly shot by a random Pink Soldier at the very end of Season 2, but, weirdly enough, the camera cuts away before it’s shown where exactly they aimed. Fans predicted that this was No-Eul, who would take advantage of this opportunity to save Gyeong-seok and take him out of the games, so he could finally go back to his sick daughter.

Hwang Jun-Ho Will Finally Confront Hwang In-Ho

The Long-Awaited Encounter Between Two Brothers

Season 1 featured an important sub-plot focused on Hwang Jun-ho, a police officer who infiltrates the games while looking for his missing brother, In-ho. In the final episode, he finds out that In-ho is none other than the masked Front Man, right before his brother shoots him. Fortunately, Jun-ho survived the encounter, and he spent most of Season 2 on a boat, trying to find the island where the games take place so he can both save Gi-Hun and face his brother once again.

After two whole seasons of buildup, Season 3 will most likely feature this long-awaited encounter between Jun-ho and In-ho, and it’s definitely going to be both extremely tense and emotional. But fans are still wondering: Will Jun-ho manage to save his brother and convince him to leave his position? Or is one of them going to die before the end of the story?

Seong Gi-Hun Will Go Back To His Family

The Main Character’s Mission Will Come To An End (But At What Cost?)

Since it’s already confirmed that Season 3 will be the final season of Squid Game, the story of the show’s main character, Seong Gi-Hun, will also come to an end. But, based on where exactly the end of Season 2 left him, a lot of crucial events have to happen before he can finally rest and go back to his family.

During the Season 1 finale, Gi-Hun decided not to go to the United States so he could stay in South Korea and put an end to the deadly games that have taken the lives of so many innocent people. So, assuming he can complete his mission in Season 3, it would be nice to see him meet his daughter once and for all. Although there’s a dark but realistic possibility that Gi-Hun won’t make it to the end alive, and he’ll meet her as a corpse instead.

The Games Will Finally Be Stopped

The Show Won’t Have A Satisfying Conclusion If The Games Are Still Active

Season 1 introduced both the viewers and the characters to the titular games, which showcased the desperation of people with economic struggles and how those at the top use this to take advantage of them. Season 2 went in a different direction, however, as it put a bigger focus on Gi-Hun’s mission to finally stop them once and for all.

Because of this, it is crucial for Season 3 to finally show the games being dismantled and their organizers (including the Front Man and the VIPs) being stopped, whether they are killed or arrested. As fun and chaotic as they can be for the audience, these violent games have resulted in countless deaths, not to mention that they work as a gruesome reminder of how capitalism works. So, it would be extremely unsatisfying if the games were still going on after the story of Squid Game is over.
