Fitness Video Games That Will Actually Make You Sweat
We say there is never a bad time to want to improve one’s body and there has never been a better time for video game fans, whatever your platform.
VR fitness games bring a whole new meaning to “at home” workouts, making getting in shape a much more fun and immersive experience than following along with a video tutorial. If you are looking to kick the gym and explore some virtual workouts, here are some VR fitness games we recommend checking out.
Updated March 6, 2025 By Matthew Mckeown: Staying on top of a gym membership can get a little pricey in the long run. Whether that’s the cost of the membership itself, or what you pay to get all the way there if you have a long commute.
To save you some pennies, it’s worth looking into VR fitness games as they’re much more cost effective and can be loaded up any time you like. The market is really starting to fill out with them these days so you’ve got a lot of options for working up a sweat. With that in mind, here’s an updated look at the best VR fitness games to get a workout in.
Gorilla Tag
Multiplayer Monkey Mayhem
If you’re looking for something to help you focus on those arm workouts, then we recommend Gorilla Tag from Another Axiom. On the surface it’s a fun and rather cutesy climbing game where you play as a legless Gorilla that’s clambering around, but it doesn’t take long for your arms to get tired.
Which makes it perfect for those looking to pump those biceps and triceps. To keep you moving there are a bunch of fun game modes from the classic social climbing, to Hunt, Tag, and Paintbrawl which involves slingshots that fire paintballs. There’s a lot of monkey customization available, plus you can play with others online to make your workout a bit more sociable.
Rumble
Punching Rocks At Your Pals
An Earth-Bending style Early Access fighting game from Buckethead Entertainment, Rumble seems simple on its surface, but once you scratch through that first layer it’s surprisingly complex. With certain movements and actions you can summon up different shaped mounds of earth from the ground, and with a punch you can send them sailing at your opponent.
So what follows is a manic, fast moving fight of flying objects, strange movements and stylish combos if you find an opening. It’s a game that constantly keeps you on your toes, and with the right opponent you can really work up a sweat. It’s recommended to practice the moves adequate before your first fight, because the game is very specific about its inputs.
Eleven Table Tennis
A Superb Simulator
A popular VR table based game that will really tired you out, Eleven Table Tennis from For Fun Labs is regarded by many as the most realistic tabletop tennis game on the market. Available on a range of headsets, it’s your standard simulator affair but with a lot of attention paid to detail.

It’s a surprisingly solid test of your skills, and you can play against other players or AI with scaleable difficulty if you fancy a real challenge. It’s very easy to immerse yourself in the game and you can have a match in any setting you like, from cosy home games to big stadium events.
X-Booster
Working Out With Musical Waves
An exercise game that feels a lot like Beat Sabre but in all the best ways, X-Booster is one worth looking into. The premise is simple, you have a bunch of banging music tracks, and you have to smack or avoid certain coloured shapes as they drift towards you on the beat.
There’s 25 different music tracks to use, more to download, and over 100 different exercises to try. Whether that’s squats, boxing movements, or slashes to work on your stretching, there’s something for everyone. It’s a well built game with some good music and an enjoyable loop that you can get lost in as you lose weight or work on your cardio. If you like games that you can just pick up and play, check out X-Booster.
Neptune Beach Ball
Simple Yet Satisfying
If you’re looking for a VR game that’s off the mainstream then check out Neptune Beach Ball. A simple, quirky, bright and pleasant indie game from a solo dev, Neptune Beach is an energetic arcade game that’s great for short sessions or setting high scores with friends.
It’s the old tennis ball on a stick affair here as you have to smack the little projectile around and around the pole. Whilst that may seem one note, every time the ball travels around it hits a board with beach symbols on it and the faster you swing, the more symbols you clear and the higher your score. Unfortunately you can’t access it on a storefront just yet, but the dev has a way for you to try it out.
You can get your hands on Neptune Beach Ball by following this link here.
Sportvida: Cyberdash
Running Around At The Speed Of Sound
A VR exercise game that might cause a few accidental smacks, Sportvida: Cyberdash is a blend of intense exercising and Beat Saber all blended into a pretty thorough workout. By waving your arms in a running, slashing or punching motion you can blast along the course and through any obstacle in your way.
Points are awarded for speed, accuracy and how many targets you smash on your sprinting sessions, and you’re encouraged to try and hit those S Ranks if you can. It’s a great fitness game that’s approachable for all skill levels and it’s a good way to keep fit if you can’t afford or don’t feel like going to a gym. Plus, the devs are proactive with updates and are fostering a pretty sizable Community, so there’s some good signs that the game has a lot of life left in it yet.
FunFitLand
A Library Of Games, For A Price
This is a suggestion that comes with a big caveat, it has a subscription. But for those willing to splurge out on that particular barrier to entry then you’ve got a wealth of fitness games at your fingertips.
There’s a selection of your classic dancing to keep the weight off as well as CombatFit which is a more energetic and intense type of workout. For those looking for the personal touch, FunFitLand also has real coaches that will guide you through your own workout, and best of all they’re always available. So you can get a professional routine handmade for you at any time in your exercise journey.
Starwave
Star Trekking Toward A Better Body Shape
A VR fitness game that’s all bright colours and neon, Starwave is a very fitting name for this particular title. Set in the vast and bright star filled void, this Beat Sabre inspired VR game has you bashing stars and other anomalies as you race through the cosmos.
It’s hard to not have a smile on your face as you bash apart asteroids and other items in Starwave. Despite not being the most intense of fitness style games, you can still burn off a lot of energy with a few rounds, or just load it up for a fun night with friends. It’s a fairly versatile VR fitness game with a nice selection of tracks and it’s a nice alternative to the usual bombastic over-the-top song based shape slicing games.
Vrit
Blast Those Bots, And Your Quads
A game that advertises itself as making fitness fun, Vrit is a simple fitness arcade style game that’s very quick and easy to get up and running. There’s plenty of options to do a full body workout including push-ups, burpees and beyond. Plus, an adventure mode to freshen things up.
You can blast bots and unlock cosmetics to put a personal touch to your digital workout space, or create your own custom workout programs. Thanks to an inbuilt tracker you can modify your routine to be as light or intense as you like. A cheap little workout programme without too many thrills, Vrit is a good start for VR fitness beginners.
Holofit
Subscription Based Escapes
One of the hardest part of any workout is the boredom that kicks in whilst you’re on a bike or treadmill. Gym TV can only do so much, so why not replace reality completely instead?
Holofit is perfect for those that have an exercise bike or rowing machine at home as it allows you to row or cycle your way through all sorts of stunning locales. From eerie jungle temples, iceberg filled archipelagos and even airship filled starscapes. Some of the views are pretty nice, and if you pair it with a podcast your workout time will just fly by.
Holofit does require a subscription to use it. But there’s a free trial on their website you can download.
Synth Riders
Swing Your Way To A Slimmer Waist
If you enjoyed Beat Saber but wanted something a bit more challenging than stick waggling, check out Synth Riders. This VR workout game has the same kind of style, but a bit more complexity and a higher amount of moving around.
There’s an eclectic collection of 73 pulse-pounding tracks to energize you and keep you bobbing around, plus some freestyle sections where you can cut loose, or just take a break. There’s also a mixed reality option if you don’t want to shut everything out and a ton of customization options. So you can really tweak the game to suit your needs.
There’s also 13 pieces of DLC, but they’re mostly extra stages and around 67 extra songs in total.
OhShape
Defeat The Hole In The Wall
If you like VR games that are very physically demanding then OhShape from Odders Lab should be at the top of your list. It’s a rhythm game that involves your whole body and you’ll be pulling a lot of poses, so don’t forget to stretch first.
The premise is simple: fit the shape in the oncoming wall by matching the pose or punching a target. It’ll intermix these tasks to keep you on your toes and it scales in complexity as you go. There’s also around 40 stages to blow through, so you’ll be working up quite the sweat.
If you enjoy dance music, there’s a free Electro Party DLC for OhShape that’s worth picking up.
Grimlord
Medieval Fantasy Fitness
This may seem like an odd choice, but follow us on this one. Grimlord from Metalcat Interactive is an Early Access VR game that will get you out of breath fast. It’s a full on fantasy RPG in VR, but unlike the others the combat actually works well.
Enemies will thrust, parry and counter your swings, and with many weapons to try, you won’t get far just swinging and hoping for the best. Some real swordsmanship is required here, and after a few minutes fencing you’ll be feeling exhausted. Improvisation is encouraged, but just make sure you don’t lodge your controller in the family pet.
Reality Baseball
Surprisingly Solid Bat Trainer
Whether you’re a fan that’s swinging for fun or training to be the next pro sat in the dugout at the Diamond, then Reality Baseball from WIN is worth checking out. This extremely in-depth training system covers everything from basic swings to advanced techniques using an analysis of your body movements in real-time.
There’s also drills to help your stance and targeted training using gamified mechanics to make the whole fitness regime feel much more fun. Plus, even if you’re not using it for hardcore training it’s in-game pitch simulations using real baseballer throws are super satisfying to just bat against to test your skills for fun.
There’s also a baseball bat attachment that comes in both Short Bat form and one that can attach to your own personal bat.

There are multiple modes of play and plenty of variety in the levels to keep things fresh so you’re not just staring at a black void or a training room all the time. A great way to get moving and energize your workout, Power Beats VR comes heavily recommended for fitness fans looking for something fun.
Some of the workouts in this can be pretty intense so make sure to take breaks and have somewhere to sit down nearby afterward as it will kill your legs.

It’s pretty solid for a basic workout, plus there’s a Hall of Fame table that you can compete to earn a place on if you’re looking for a reason to keep coming back to Rezzil Player.
There are also add-on packs, but these are just basic Team Packs and are not worth your cash.

There’s three different modes of play that focus on things like blocking fast shots, training your skills, and providing additional training to help improve your overall fitness and abilities. There’s a handy stat tracker, and multiplayer street soccer plus the game itself is pretty cheap.
Clean Sheet Soccer is another Meta exclusive.
Power Punch
A Battle Royale Slugfest
A VR Battle Royale game that’s sure to leave you soaked in sweat and gasping for a break, Power Punch is a chaotic multiplayer boxing game. Gameplay is simple, you’re dumped into an arena with other players and you just have to batter the absolute daylights out of each other. The winner is the last one standing, so start swinging those fists.
You’re encouraged to hit as hard as you can as the bigger the punch, the more damage you do. Fights can get pretty frantic and thrilling when you’re facing off with someone who knows how to throw hands and the art style is cute and colorful so you don’t feel too intimidated about punching other people online.
It’s highly recommended that you vacate everything and everyone breakable from your play space whilst using Power Punch. It’s an accident waiting to happen.
Racket Club
Tennis, Without The Need To Run
If you’re looking for a realistic racket ball game then Racket Club is worth checking out. You can grab a big group for a set of Doubles or face off against AI bots that will give you quite the challenge. Movement sync is incredibly accurate and there’s even a Tennis Club to go hang out in if you fancy socializing with other players.
The minimum play space for Racket Club is six feet by six feet, so you don’t need a ton of room to try it out.
