Should You Destroy The Mines or Fight Darle?

Fires in the Mine is one of the first side quests you’ll do after entering the Shatterscarp region in Avowed. At Eagle’s Reach, an Aedyran Soldier will inform the Envoy that their efforts to reopen an abandoned sulfur mine in the Deadfall Highlands have been unsuccessful due to a swarm of spiders inside. So, your job is to take care of the spider nests inside, followed by a crucial decision you’ll have to make in the end.

How to Repair the Sulfur Mine Camp Elevator in Avowed

After starting the Fires in the Mine mission, you’ll first need to head to the mine encampment. On your way, you’ll meet a couple of distressed workers complaining about the broken elevator that leads to the camp. So you’ll need to repair the elevator before you can head up to the mine encampment.

The best way to repair the elevator is by equipping an Electric Lilly Seed (electric bombs) and aiming at the wooden panel to the right of the elevator (the area marked on the image above). After throwing the electric bomb, the mechanism of the elevator will be powered, and you can pull the level below to call it down.

At the mine encampment, you’ll meet Seyon, who’ll brief you on the importance of reopening the sulfur mines. Before you can enter the mine, you’ll meet a soldier named Darle, who’ll be happy to see the Envoy at the scene.

Destroying Spider Nests in Fires in the Mine Quest

After entering the mine, your main objective is to destroy two spider nests in the Fires in the Mine quest in Avowed. The first nest is close to the mine entrance. Simply follow the path and go up the stairs until you arrive at an open cavern swarming with spiderlings, both small and large, that you should take down. Use fire spells, bombs, or Kai’s Firestarter ability to burn the nest.

To reach the next nest, you’ll need to continue down the path from the first one. Burning a few walls of webs and traversing over the broken railway track, you’ll drop down into the second spider’s nest location. Similarly, you’ll need to take down the spiders in this area and successfully burn the nest. After burning both nests, you’ll need to return to the mine encampment.

On your way, you’ll come across a sarcophagus near an elevator that you can loot to get Magran’s Force

unique gloves. Now, activate the elevator and take it down to reach the entrance to the mines.

Should You Destroy the Sulfur Mine or Attack Darle?

Just before players can exit the sulfur mines, they’ll be stopped by Darle, who is standing guard at the entrance. He’ll request the Envoy to burn the mine to prevent a war between the two nations. After Darle explains his logic, players will need to choose whether to destroy the mines or refuse Darle’s request and attack him.

If you choose to accept Darle’s request, the mines will be destroyed, and you won’t be able to enter here ever again. Seyon will also be upset at this decision and won’t give any monetary quest rewards to players.

However, if you choose to go against Darle, it’ll lead to a boss fight with him. Darle is quite easy to deal with, as his only weapon is a sword, and he has no special attacks. After making quick work of him, return to Seyon, and they’ll reward you with some coins and express their gratitude. This also means you’ll be able to re-enter the mines in Avowed to scavenge some loot after completing the Fires in the Mine quest.
