A new rumor claims that PlayStation is gearing up for a big event. According to insider Jeff Grubb, Sony is considering a summer PlayStation Showcase, which would make it the first since May 2023. PlayStation and Sony experienced a shaky 2024 with the launch of Concord, but its planned offering of single-player narratives is exciting.
There have been Sony State of Play events recently, but a full-blown PlayStation Showcase has been a long time coming. It’s important to remember that Jeff Grubb’s PlayStation Showcase claims are merely rumors until confirmed by Sony, but if true, there is an exciting list of potential titles that gamers may want to tune in for.

The Rumored PlayStation Showcase Could Be Packed With Major Titles
Two of Sony’s Big 2025 Releases Have Yet to Confirm Launch Dates
- Ghost of Yotei
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
As far as it’s known, development on both projects is going according to plan, but the lack of confirmed launch dates is surprising. Hideo Kojima will host a dedicated SXSW panel on March 9, which has ignited speculation that a release date could be announced there. If not, though, a PlayStation Showcase would be the best stage for such a reveal. Ghost of Yotei has been even more mysterious. Revealed last year, developer Sucker Punch has remained pretty quiet about the game, so the rumored broadcast will hopefully confirm a launch window.
Long-Awaited Marvel Projects From Insomniac
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- The unannounced Venom spin-off
Developer Insomniac revealed both Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, but the former still has yet to see the light of day. Considering it was announced at a PlayStation Showcase, it only makes sense to show itself at one again. Insomniac is also expected to be working on a Venom spin-off. The infamous 2023 Insomniac leaks mentioned a Venom project slated for a 2025 release, but so far, this game has yet to be revealed.
Legacy Sony Studios Could Showcase New Projects
- Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic
- Santa Monica Studio’s mysterious new IP
Intergalactic was a surprise reveal at last year’s Game Awards from Naughty Dog, but Santa Monica Studio could have tricks up its sleeve, as well. Reports have suggested that the God of War developers could be working on a brand-new IP, and a PlayStation Showcase would be the ideal way to show fans what lies beyond the Kratos-led franchise.
There have been Sony State of Play events recently, but a full-blown PlayStation Showcase has been a long time coming.
Sony and Microsoft Could Finally Reveal a Long-Awaited Partnership
- Halo and Gears of War coming to PS5.
This would be one of the biggest reveals at a possible PlayStation Showcase. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has been a fixture in the news cycle lately, as he’s made it clear that Xbox is no longer interested in exclusivity. This means that all of Microsoft’s first-party titles have the potential to be ported to PlayStation consoles, even heavy-hitters like Halo and Gears of War. It’s already been announced that Forza Horizon 5 is coming to PS5, and Halo and Gears of War feel destined to follow. These ports have been speculated about for a while, so finally confirming their existence at a PlayStation Showcase would be a no-brainer.
Rumors have claimed that the original Gears of War trilogy could be coming to PS5.
Other Potential Titles
- Horizon Online
- Fairgame$
- Saros
Both Horizon Online and Fairgame$ are continuing Sony’s live-service ambitions, even if there have been shake-ups in the company’s original plans. Since the Horizon franchise has become such a staple for Sony, Horizon Online making an appearance feels like a safe bet. The compelling roguelike Saros that was announced at the most recent State of Play could very well offer fans a deeper dive, too. As the summer draws closer, Sony will hopefully announce a big PlayStation Showcase soon.
