As with any Yakuza game, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is filled with optional content for players to explore. From racing Dragon Karts to snapping Sickos, gambling, collecting fortune slips, and more, there is much more for Goro Majima to do than simply crew his pirate ship and sail around Hawaii. One of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’s best pieces of optional content is its cosmetics, which serve as both a source of hilarity and a tribute to the series’ past games – including Goro Majima’s many roles and looks.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’s Emotional Core Sets It Apart From Other Entries
While the Like a Dragon series is no stranger to emotional stories, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii sets itself apart with one of the most emotional yet.
Players Can Collect Iconic Outfits And New Looks
After unlocking access to the guest room in Revolve Bar during the second chapter of the game, players have the option of customizing Goro Majima’s outfit via the changing room. He can wear two different outfits at once – a Casual outfit worn in Honolulu and one seen when aboard the Goromaru, in Madlantis, or fighting in Sea Dog Style. Players can also add small accessories such as hats or eye patches to Goro the tiger cub.
Outfits can be purchased from stores, found in containers, and won via participating in mini-games such as Crazy Delivery or Sicko Snap. There are some new looks, including Hawaiian shirts, formal suits, and, of course, multiple pirate costumes, but there are also many shout-outs to past games: a zombie look inspired by Yakuza: Dead Souls, Majima’s cabaret manager look from Yakuza 0, the sparkling silver “Everyone’s Idol” outfit, and, of course, Majima’s iconic disguise as Goromi the hostess. It’s a lovely tribute to the many roles Goro Majima has played throughout the series as friend, rival, enemy, ally, and much more.
Available outfits include tributes to multiple games and characters in the series, not just Majima himself. There are set outfits inspired by various jobs from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, including the Desperado and Pyrodancer. In addition, players who purchase the deluxe editions of the game can unlock outfits based on multiple past characters from the series, including Ichiban Kasuga, Eric Tomizawa, Joongi Han, and, of course, Kazuma Kiryu.
Cosmetics Maintain The Game’s Goofy Tone
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii isn’t without its serious moments, but it is overall one of the more light-hearted entries in the Yakuza franchise. It is rife with humorous moments, from a fully choreographed opening musical number to Majima fighting bears, tigers, and giant squids to recruiting all sorts of bizarre characters to join the Goromaru’s crew. The fact that players can do all of these things while wearing silly outfits, such as full death metal gear, a Castlevania–esque vampire suit, or Goromi’s wig paired with a snakeskin pirate coat helps maintain the goofy tone throughout the game.
There’s also a heartwarming element to the game’s cosmetics – players can also customize the look of Goro the tiger cub, an adorable animal who serves as Majima and Noah’s companion throughout the game. While there are far fewer cosmetic options available for Goro the cub to wear, he can match with Majima by wearing the same pirate hat as he does in his default Sea Dog outfit or an eyepatch appropriately named in-game as the “Little ‘Jima.” This emphasizes the deep bond between Goro the human and Goro the tiger cub, a heartwarming connection that remains present throughout Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
With so many side activities, mini-games, and items to collect in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, it can be hard to name any one thing as the best. However, the game’s cosmetic system is certainly a contender for this honor. It helps the game feel light-hearted and silly while also serving as a lovely tribute to Goro Majima’s many looks throughout the series.
