LaD: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Launch Possibly Tracking Behind Infinite Wealth
Several early indicators suggest that Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’s launch is tracking behind LaD: Infinite Wealth.
A few days later, Sega launched a massive sale that slashed the prices of most Yakuza and Like a Dragon games that are currently available on the PlayStation Store. While Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is unsurprisingly skipping this promotion, being less than a week old, the 2024 Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has been discounted by 50%. The catch with this particular offer is that it’s only available as part of the Like a Dragon Series Starter Pack, which bundles Infinite Wealth with the 2020 series entry—Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Yakuza / Like a Dragon PS Store Franchise Sale
The first seven entries in the Yakuza franchise have also been treated to a flat 45% discount as part of the ongoing promotion. All of them can hence be picked up for $10.99 a piece for the duration of the sale. The biggest price cuts have been reserved for the spin-offs following private detective Takayuki Yagami, with Judgment and Lost Judgment currently being available at 75% and 80% off, respectively.
Sega’s sale will run for two more weeks, concluding on March 13, at 1:59am ET / 7:59am CET. The promotion is exclusive to the PlayStation Store, as the PC and Xbox versions of the Like a Dragon games aren’t discounted at the moment. That said, Microsoft’s subscribers can presently play through a decent chunk of the series with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Likewise, the currently discounted Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is also part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog.
What’s the Best Order to Play the Yakuza / Like a Dragon Games?
The ongoing sale presents a good opportunity to jump into the Yakuza franchise without breaking the bank. Anyone considering doing so might find themselves debating on the order of games to play. Most of the fandom is split into two camps on this question, one of which advises playing the games in chronological story order, so starting from Yakuza 0. An alternative approach is to play them in release order, treating the Kiwami remakes as the first two games, which would mean Yakuza 0 would come between Y5 and Y6. Yakuza 0 is fairly widely regarded as the best entry in the series, so starting with it might set unrealistic expectations. The Judgment spin-offs can be tackled at any point after Yakuza 6.
