Summary
- The first images of Lorcana’s Reign Of Jafar expansion have revealed a new Illumineer’s Quest set.
- The new Illumineer’s Quest is called Palace Heist and will pit players against the iconic Aladdin villian.
- Palace Heist is only the second Illumineer’s Quest set, joining the one included in 2024’s Ursula’s Return expansion.
Lorcana players are currently preparing for the release of the Disney card game’s next set, Archazia’s Island. However, as is often the case when it comes to TCGs, many will already have half an eye on the set that’s coming after it. We’ve known that the set will be centered around Jafar for a while, and now we know a little bit more about what to expect from it.
Reign Of Jafar will include all of the standard products you’d expect from any other Lorcana set such as booster packs and new starter decks. However, the first images of Lorcana’s summer 2025 set have revealed the expansion will have a little something extra that has only been included in one Lorcana expansion so far – an Illumineer’s Quest.

The official images of products in the Reign Of Jafar include a first look at an Illumineer’s Quest set titled Palace Heist. The box art for the set features an ominous Jafar towering over his palace with some much smaller characters in the foreground, traipsing over the dunes on their way to overthrow him.
Reign Of Jafar Will Include A New Illumineer’s Quest
A New Way To Learn The Game Or Play It Alone
Illumineer’s Quest is a neat and somewhat unique inclusion in Lorcana that not only gives players the chance to learn the ropes without having to compete against someone else, but it can even be played alone. The alternative way to play the TCG is effectively Lorcana PvE. One or more of you team up to take on an iconic Disney villain and their minions. In this instance, it will be Jafar and whoever he has guarding his palace.
The only set to include an Illumineer’s Quest deck so far is 2024’s Ursula’s Return. Since details regarding what exactly Reign Of Jafar’s Palace Heist will look like beyond the packaging are sparse, it’s unclear if this addition will be an expansion on the current Illumineer’s Quest, a standalone set that can’t be combined with Urusula’s, or a little of both.
Its inclusion, release date, and subject also suggest Disney is starting up a villainous pattern. Since Illumineer’s Quest pits players against an NPC villain, it makes sense that a set with Jafar as its subject is the next one to receive its own quest. It will also be released almost exactly one year after Ursula’s Return. That could mean every Lorcana summer set will have an iconic Disney villain at its core, and that each of them will have their own Illumineer’s Quest for you to embark on.
