After an agonizing wait, the trailer for Bosch: Legacy season 3 has been released, and it gave fans an insight into what cases Harry Bosch will be investigating in the upcoming 10-episode run. The third and final season will be based primarily on Michael Connelly‘s book, The Black Ice, but it’ll also feature aspects of the 2022 book, Desert Star. Bosch: Legacy season 3 will pick up immediately after the cliffhanger at the end of Bosch: Legacy season 2, which saw Maddie Bosch answering a collect call from convicted murderer, Preston Borders, who claimed he’d helped Harry Bosch kill Kurt Dockweiler in prison. Elsewhere, Honey Chandler is running for District Attorney, while Maurice ‘Mo’ Bassi has a big decision to make, with the FBI on his case.

The final episode will be a standalone handover to the Ballard spin-off series, despite the initial plan being for Bosch: Legacy and Ballard to crossover. Mitzi Roberts, the real-life inspiration for Renee Ballard, confirmed this in a post to fans on the Bosch Pit Facebook group:

I can’t say much other than we’re all very bummed about the decision. That said, hopefully, you’ll love the Ballard series too. As you said, it was written to compliment Bosch, never to replace it.

Troy Evans, who plays Barrel Johnson in Bosch: Legacy, also expressed disappointment with Amazon’s decision to cancel the show, and bemoaned their lack of promotion for the third season:

Titus Welliver’s pre-cancelation comments on the Katie Sackhoff YouTube channel confirmed the end of Bosch: Legacy wasn’t a creative decision. In addition to this, Titus Welliver’s short contract on Ballard was supposed to be accompanied by another season of Bosch: Legacy, but Amazon misled him. Amazon also prevented Welliver and others from speaking out to support the Save Bosch: Legacy petition, and drove the one-day fast delivery money truck to his door in the form of a new first-look deal with the streamer to guarantee his silence. Michael Connelly acknowledged the petition, but his continued involvement with Amazon on the Ballard spin-off has also prevented him from saying too much.
