Last Epoch Season 2 brings class rework and expanded endgame to the Diablo rival

With the second Diablo 4 expansion not planned until 2026 and the next Path of Exile 2 update still a month off, Last Epoch developer Eleventh Hour Games reveals the full details of its next season. The indie ARPG proved itself a worthy contender with its 1.0 launch in 2024, and if you’re looking for something a little mechanically deeper than Diablo and more polished than PoE 2’s current early-access version, Last Epoch is well worth trying. It’s got fantastic class identity, an incredibly rewarding gear and crafting system, and the Season 2 launch will provide a great time to jump in right at the beginning of April.

EHG has made a wealth of improvements to Last Epoch since its 1.0 release, but playing more ARPGs since then has reiterated why it deserves to be considered among the best games like Diablo. Its campaign offers a wealth of environmental diversity thanks to the time-hopping theme, while the clever structure allows experienced players to shortcut their way through to the endgame if they can make it past some challenging test dungeons.

The five Last Epoch classes, and the three subclass ‘masteries’ each one offers, are all tremendously flavorful and distinctive, giving you ample choice of how to play. Its well-designed loot is supported by robust filters so you never miss a good drop, player-driven crafting that is simple to understand but with plenty of depth, and ample, sortable storage options that beat out anything its competitors offer.

In Last Epoch Season 2, Tombs of the Erased, you’ll deal with the arrival of a new faction, the Woven. You’ll be familiar with the name of the Weaver if you’ve played before, but now we’ll have access to a full Weaver faction tree that acts as a way to manipulate your endgame Monolith timelines. It’s separate from your other faction choices, so there’s no need to worry about being locked out of the Merchant’s Guild or Circle of Fortune.

The Weaver faction tree combines with new levels known as Woven Echoes to dramatically expand your endgame options. You’ll also encounter a tougher, faster type of troublemaker called ‘champion’ enemies, which can offer drops with exclusive new affixes. Powerful items can be rerolled by the Weaver in exchange for a sacrifice of equivalent value. There are new tomb and cemetery zones to explore, along with more endgame boss fights including the Uber Aberroth Variant.

One of Last Epoch’s few annoying restrictions, the ability to change your chosen mastery despite generous respec options elsewhere, has been removed. The Sentinel class has been dramatically retooled, stripping back limitations that held it back in ways the other options didn’t face. You’ll now have more mobility and defensive options, and will find plenty of new and redesigned passive nodes to experiment with. Of course, you can expect alterations across all the other classes as well, such as new Rogue skill Heartseeker.

Dungeon keys have been moved out of your inventory into their own dedicated storage slot, and new charms will allow you to jump straight to the boss after completing a dungeon once if you want to farm. WASD movement is now being supported in a beta form, and inventory tabs will further improve Last Epoch’s best-in-class loot sorting options. All in all, you can expect the new season to be the most smooth and enjoyable version of Last Epoch yet, and I’d encourage giving it a try if you’re looking for a new ARPG.

Last Epoch Season 2, Tombs of the Erased, launches Wednesday April 2. If you want to play through the campaign before then to get a feel for its systems and test out some of the best Last Epoch builds, you’ll find it on Steam.
