Despite the overall mundanity of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it has some truly fascinating quests. The Mouth of Hell is one such experience that sprinkles a bit of survival horror onto Henry’s medieval adventure, and unfortunately, it’s very easy to miss.
The side quests in KCD2 are often short but sweet, and that trend continues here with the Mouth of Hell. In this guide, we’ll be covering where you can start this mission as well as the quickest path to finishing it.
How to Start the Mouth of Hell Quest in KCD2
You can start this side quest by visiting Old Kutna, a village northwest of Kuttenberg city. There, you’ll find a group of people arguing with a priest near a pack of slaughtered cattle. Speak to any one of the people there to initiate a conversation.
The people will tell you that their cattle were massacred by devils that came from a nearby mine, and they’re mad that the local priest won’t do anything about it. Tell them that you’ll help with the investigation to start the quest.
Prepare an Offering
Once you accept the quest, you’ll be prompted to prepare an offering to the devils in the mine. Head west of Old Kutna until you reach a large clearing with multiple huts in between some hills. You’ll find a ladder leading underground there — head down the ladder, and a cutscene will play.
Get Out of the Mine!
After the cutscene, you’ll find yourself stuck down the mine with all of your gear seemingly stolen by a mysterious man clad in bloody armor. Head straight through the tunnel to reach an intersection. If you head to the pitch-black tunnel to the right, you can pick up Knight’s Notes III
as well as a bottle of weak Saviour’s Schnapps in case you want to save your game. Return to the intersection, then press onward to where you saw the knight go.
At the next intersection, you’ll hear someone chanting in latin. Pick up the torch lying on the barrel and another bottle of weak Saviour’s Schnapps in a basket hidden in the tunnel to the left, then continue moving forward. You’ll find a Hunting Sword on a table to the left, and a locked chest on an altar to the right. Continue down the tunnel to find a ladder that leads upward. Look up, and you’ll find the knight introducing himself as Taras, a self-proclaimed Shield of God.
Pick up the Work Axe on the table behind the ladder, then climb up. When you reach the intersection, turn left, then follow the tunnel. You’ll eventually find a chest containing all of your stuff next to Knight’s Notes I
. If you encounter the knight while looting, he’ll become hostile and start attacking you.
In the tunnel next to where the loot chest is, you’ll find a ladder leading back to the surface. Go up to find Father Marian and some local militiamen waiting for you. Tell them what happened, and when asked, tell the men to have faith in God. In doing so, you’ll end up with 225 Groschen as a reward.
You can potentially get more rewards if you choose to thoroughly explore the mine instead of going straight back to the surface.
