While the menus involved in the multiplayer systems can be a bit convoluted, once you get used to them you’ll be hunting with both old and new friends alike! Here’s all you need to know if you want to play online with your friends.
Keep in mind, that the access to these systems will vary depending on your Main Story progression; if the game doesn’t allow you to use them, just keep going!
How To Play Online In Monster Hunter Wilds
To Play Online in Monster Hunter Wilds, you can choose from many options. You can create different kinds of lobbies depending on your preferences, while also using the Link Party and Link Environment functions to synchronize your world instance with them and go together on Investigations.
How To Create A Lobby
Lobbies are the rooms to see other players in the different base camps across the Forbidden Lands, and they have different names depending on what they do. You can search a specific lobby or join a random public one by speaking to Alma and selecting one of Four options.
The different Lobby Categories are:
- Recommended Lobby: This option enables you to join a random lobby based on your preferences (which you can previously set up.)
- Lobby Search: You can choose more specific options to join Lobbies that cater to your tastes, or if you want to look for a specific Lobby ID.
- Private Lobby: This creates a private lobby; players can only join by typing the Lobby ID (which you’ll see in your Communication Menu) or by being invited by you. It has fewer maximum players that can join, but you will remain in it after every Quest ends without being separated.
- Online Single Player: This is Solo mode for you, and it lets you Pause the game should you need it, while also enabling you to invite random players during Quests, by using the SOS Flare.
How To Link Parties
Let’s say you’re in a public lobby, and you find a group that really works together. Do you wanna keep playing with them without having them create a Private Lobby? Then here’s the solution for that; you must Link A Party.
Linking a party can be done by selecting Link A Party in the Communication Menu, and by doing so, you can ensure you and three other fellow hunters will remain together after finishing a quest. The difference with a Private Lobby is that you can also use the Link Environment functionality; while a Private Lobby will keep you all together, linking your environment will sync you all to one single world, so you can go out on adventures and hunt in Investigations together.
Linking a party will also warn you whenever one of the party members starts a quest, so you can immediately join them from the Communications menu, in the Invitations section.
How To Add Friends
You can click on any player in the Lobby Member List or add any Hunter ID to invite them to your Friend List from the Communication menu. This will help you all to remain in touch after finishing a playing session, in case you wanna hang out later!
How To Create A Squad
So you wanna take your friendship to the next level? You can do it by creating a Squad! These can have up to 50 players and you can be part of up to eight different squads; they come with their private lobbies, a specific message board, and more commodities for them.
To Join or Create a Squad, you must talk to Felicitas in the Windward Plains Base Camp.
