How To Get The Fancy Footwork Achievement In Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Fancy Footwork achievement is tied to defeating Enver Gortash in his audience hall without allowing him to activate his traps. If the Steel Watchers weren’t enough to make the combat challenging, Gortash’s audience hall is also a deathtrap in disguise that springs into action when the tyrant takes his turn.

There are some items that players should always sell in Baldur’s Gate 3 to further increase their supply of coin.

Since the achievement clearly requires defeating Gortash before he can activate his traps, you’ll need to approach this fight with an effective strategy. Here are some of the best strategies to help you take down Gortash efficiently and claim the coveted trophy/achievement.

Strategy 1: Destroy Traps Before Drawing Gortash Out Of The Audience Hall

Disable Key Traps & Steel Watchers Before Luring Gortash Out

Gortash’s audience hall is laced with traps in all corners. However, they only activate when Gortash turns hostile, meaning you’re free to destroy as many traps provided you don’t get noticed in the act. That said, it isn’t necessary to disable every trap in the audience hall — as long as you destroy the four traps in the northern section of the hall and the two nearby shield-buffing curtains, you should be good to go.

You’ll also need to destroy the three Steel Watches patrolling outside the Audience Hall. Fortunately, combat with the Steel Watches doesn’t turn the enemies inside the hall hostile. With the Steel Watchers and key traps destroyed, position the rest of your party outside the hall before surprising Gortash with a stealth attack.

With the enemies surprised, dash your way out of the Audience Hall and let Gortash follow you out as well. By the time Gortash makes it out of the Audience Hall, he should lose all of his buffs and be far from the traps, making it easier for your party to take him down and consequently unlock the trophy/achievement.

Strategy 2: Shove Gortash To His Death After His Coronation Ceremony

Use Spirit Guardians To Position Gortash Near His Death Balcony

It’s not recommended to kill Gortash during the coronation ceremony as it causes you to skip several key story and companion quests, but if your eyes are set on unlocking the trophy/achievement, you can follow along with this strategy and reload to a previous save.

After Gortash’s coronation, you’ll need to get one of your companions, preferably someone proficient or expert in Sleight of Hand or Dexterity checks, and get them into the chamber west of the hall. Have this companion lockpick the western balcony door before switching to your Cleric.

Have your cleric cast Spirit Guardians and get them to move toward Gortash, which will cause Gortash to move away from the Cleric. You can use this strategy to lure Gortash into the western chamber and closer to the balcony. Next, you can turn Gortash hostile by attacking him.

Now, you’ll need to get your Strength-based companion to either push or throw Gortash off the balcony. Initiative rolls will play a large role in this strategy, and you’ll want at least your Strength-based character going first in the turn order before Gortash. So, consider saving the game before attacking. Once thrown off the balcony, Gortash will be knocked prone and can be finished off with a couple of ranged attacks or spells, unlocking the trophy/achievement.

Strategy 3: Drown Gortash In A Massive Smokepowder Barrel & Fireworks Explosion

Surround Gortash With Explosives & Ignite Them For A Potential One-Shot Kill

This strategy only works as long as you haven’t turned Gortash hostile and can find sufficient explosives to either one-shot him or at least lower his health enough to finish him off with a couple of attacks.

You can find a good amount of explosives in Felogyr’s Fireworks in the Lower City, but you’ll need to be careful not to set the place ablaze if you happen to engage in combat there. Consider picking up as many smokepowder barrels and fireworks as you can and sending them to camp for later use.

For good measure, you may also choose to buy smokepowder bombs and acquire a runepowder bomb from Wulbren if you saved him in Act 1 or 2.

As long as Gortash isn’t hostile, you can surround him with smokepowder barrels and other explosives, then save the game. Next, position your party as best you can, preferably in stealth mode, before casting a fire spell or shooting a fire arrow at the explosives.

The chain of explosions should be enough to one-shot Gortash — or at least leave him with little HP to finish him off before the traps trigger, granting you the Fancy Footwork trophy/achievement.
