Summary

  • GTA Online player u/Agreeable_Corner_298 managed to make $1 billion of “legit money” without buying Shark Cards.
  • They did this by repeatedly playing the Casino Heist and running fully upgraded businesses in the background.
  • u/Agreeable_Corner_298 even shaved the number down to exactly $1 billion by drinking a boat load of Sprunk.

Without splashing out on Shark Cards or using exploits, how long would it take to become a billionaire in GTA Online? As it turns out, 12,000 hours.

To put into perspective how long that is, GTA 5 came out 4,181 days ago, which means that, on average, u/Agreeable_Corner_298 has played nearly three hours a day since launch, making for a total of 500 days. That’s over a year of game time. Understandably then, they jumped to share their milestone with other fans on the game’s subreddit, even carving out the word “celebration” on a helipad with a minigun.

On average, they’ve played nearly three hours a day since launch.

However, the 12,000 hours wasn’t all active playtime. u/Agreeable_Corner_298 explained that at least a quarter of that was idling, so roughly 3,000 hours if that figure is accurate. They also haven’t been striving to get $1 billion for all 13 years since GTA 5 hit store shelves. They only set that goal recently, during the pandemic.

They’ve Been Trying To Do This Since 2020

u/Agreeable_Corner_298 had only made a fraction of the $1 billion they now hold by 2020, when they first hit $100 million. But as they “owned almost everything in the game and didn’t have much to spend on”, they set out to hoard as much wealth as possible. It took another five years to collect the remaining $900 million, but they stressed that they “didn’t play the game five years nonstop”.

As for how they made the money without Shark Cards, they played the Casino Heist over and over again while “running all fully upgraded businesses on the background, buying supplies every time and investing time wisely”.

They claimed to have only bought a Shark Card once in 2013 to get an apartment for $300,000.

However, not everyone is convinced that it’s legit, especially since they have exactly $1 billion in their bank account. But u/Agreeable_Corner_298 claimed that they drank a copious amount of Sprunk, which costs $1, to shave the number down. “Had to make cops shoot me and decrease my health so I could get rid of my snacks and then buy them again,” they explained. They could’ve just bought casino chips, but hey-ho.
