Netease’s FragPunk, a PvP FPS that mixes in a curious deckbuilding mechanic, is just days away from release. To give us another taste of what to expect, developer Bad Guitar Studio has dropped a new trailer, offering a glimpse of its various game modes.
FragPunk is a free-to-play online FPS that pitches you into frantic 5v5 combat and features a range of playable heroes or ‘Lancers’. They range from the rocket-launcher wielding Broker, through to tech-wizard Nitro and the toxin-dealing Pathojen, who definitely didn’t steal Poison Ivy’s homework. If you want to know more, we’ve rounded up every FragPunk character here.
Now, with the game dropping this March 6, Netease has unveiled the game modes that FragPunk players will be able to tackle. Aside from the competitive Shard Clash, there’s a trio of ‘casual’ team deathmatch modes: One Shot, Sniper Death Match, and Melee Death Match.
The former is fairly self-explanatory, and Sniper Death Match is snipers versus snipers, which should be a treat for anyone who loved scoring long distance kills on Unreal Tournament’s Facing Worlds. And Melee Death Match equips players with a knife and nothing else.

Netease has also unveiled a new robotic character, Chum, and shared how FragPunk’s seasons will pan out. Seasons will last for four months, and each will be divided into two chapters, beginning with Season 1: Wild Dawn. Each chapter will add new Lancers and new Shard Cards and there’s also the possibility of additional gameplay modes.
Adding new Shard Cards is certainly a smart move; FragPunk’s beta was fairly well received, and its deck-building element could be just what’s needed to help it stand out. However, as Netease’s recent Marvel Rivals layoffs show, a smash hit doesn’t necessarily translate to job security.
FragPunk launches on Steam this March 6 and is free-to-play. Or if PvP action isn’t to your taste, we’ve got the best MMORPGs to play in 2025 and the best multiplayer games to play with friends.
