How To Set Up A Tour

Tour Stands can be added to your museum for $5,000 each, and each one allows you to run one tour. Tours must be led by Experts, so you’ll probably need to hire some extras if you want tours to be a major part of your strategy. The good news is, Experts can run any tour, even if the Exhibits on display aren’t part of their specialization.

You can set up a Tour Stand’s route when you first place it, and edit the route from the second tab on its menu. While in Tour Setup, all you have to do is click on an Exhibit to add or remove it from the tour route; a dotted line and checkboxes will show which Exhibits the tour visits and the route visitors take.

Removing an Exhibit from the museum removes it from any tours it was a part of; you’ll need to manually re-add it if you put it back on display.

Experts who have tours as part of their assigned duties will offer tours from Tour Stands, collecting extra donations based on the number of guests and the rating of the tour at the end of each. If you have Experts with the Eloquent trait, try training them in the Tours skill and having them focus exclusively on tours while other Experts maintain Exhibits and go on Expeditions.

How To Improve Tour Ratings

The main thing that impacts a tour’s rating is the combined total Buzz and average Quality of all the Exhibits shown. If you have a tour with lots of Buzz and all Pristine Exhibits, but it still doesn’t have a good rating, check its other stats in tour setup. It could be inconsistent, or too long.

Average Quality

The average Quality of all the Exhibits on a tour plays into its overall rating; you’ll have a hard time getting a perfect five stars if all of the Exhibits aren’t maximum, Pristine Quality. Great- and Epic-Quality Exhibits can still command a respectable four-star rating, but you should really save tours for your most impressive pieces anyway.

Decoration

Tour rating is capped by the highest Decoration Rating among all the Exhibits shown. That means that you need all of your Exhibits on a tour to be fully-decorated to get the best possible rating. That includes Aquariums and Polterguest Rooms, which require internal decorations independently of nearby objects on the museum floor.

Fully-furnished Aquariums and Polterguest Rooms filled entirely with Pristine specimens make great tour destinations due to their high Buzz.

Cohesion

Tours get better ratings if all their Exhibits are from the same theme, or ideally the same subcategory. Keep your tours to a single topic; for example, don’t go mixing Prehistory and Space Exhibits on the same tour, even if you have them grouped together to activate Ancient Mysteries.

Length

A tour that’s too long is one of the easiest ways to lose points from your overall star rating. Length factors in the total distance that guests have to walk from the Tour Stand to each Exhibit on the route; the shorter the better. If you’re planning a tour, group all the Exhibits that you plan to showcase together in one room, and place the Tour Stand very close to the first stop.

Guests don’t need to return to the Tour Stand at the end of the tour, so try setting it up such that they walk in a straight line, ideally toward the Gift Shop, Cafeteria… or another Tour Stand.
