Obsidian provides you with plenty of options when it comes to the armor in Avowed, as it’s divided into three categories to ensure that there’s protective gear to cater to distinct playstyles. But while the Light and Heavy armor can be productive for specific builds, there’s a great middle ground in the form of the Medium armor that not only helps you on the defensive front but also does not hinder your movement too much.
However, even the Medium armor category comes with a lot of choices, ranging from regular armor that you can find more easily to unique armor that is harder to get but worth the hassle. Knowing which pieces stand out as the best can make your Avowed gameplay much smoother.

Superb Mail Hauberk
Although the majority of the best Medium armor in Avowed belongs to the Unique category, the Superb Mail Hauberk piece emerges as a highlight on the more common side of things, beating the damage reduction stats of almost every other armor in the category.
The only real trade-off that you will have to live with is the armor depleting both your maximum stamina and essence quite drastically, but considering that other similar pieces are not that far behind on that front, it is not exactly a major loss. That, combined with its relatively high stability, makes the Superb Mail Hauberk an excellent Medium armor choice if you are having a hard time finding some Unique pieces.

Common Scale Armor
If you are just starting out on your Avowed journey but naturally want to be protected from the dangers of its world, the Common Scale Armor will keep you going for quite some time early in the game. Sure, it may not reduce damage as efficiently as the rest of the Common armor roster, but it more than makes up for it by ensuring that you do not run out of stamina during intense encounters.
You can also keep upgrading the Common Scale Armor as required, and considering that it is not really a hassle to acquire it in the first place, it is the perfect Medium armor to have as you embark on your adventure in the Living Lands.

Stormdancer’s Scale
Starting off at the first level of the Exceptional tier, the Stormdancer’s Scale is a Unique armor whose stats may not look like much on a surface level, but it becomes quite worth it when its additional bonuses are taken into account. For starters, this Medium armor also gives you the chance to protect yourself against ranged attacks, which is the cherry on top of its already adequate basic and additional damage reduction stats.
But the best part is that it also provides you with significant protection against Shock attacks, and considering that it does not hurt your overall stamina too much either, the Stormdancer’s Scale is an armor worth considering.

Necropants
Taking on multiple enemies at once can get quite jarring in Avowed, so if you are looking for a helping hand to provide some much-needed assistance in battle, the Necropants armor has got you covered. This Medium armor summons a Spectre to team up with you to take on the opposition, which gives you the window that you require to take a breath and figure out your next move.
Aside from that, the Necropants also give you considerable protection against dangerous Poison attacks that slowly deplete your health over time, making it an armor that truly lives up to its Exceptional category.

Stelgaer’s Pride
Although Stelgaer’s Pride initially comes in the Common tier and has to be upgraded to reach its full potential, the bonuses that it has are quite interesting and can save you during drastic scenarios. For example, if you are getting hit continuously and take damage exceeding a certain percentage of your maximum health, this Medium armor unleashes Barbaric Shout on the enemy, which is quite effective even against bigger opponents.
Barbaric Shout interrupts the enemy and gives you the time to hit them back with a counterattack, and since they are stunned, your attacks can’t be interrupted. But that is not all, as this Medium armor piece also keeps your Stamina regeneration in check, so you can rest assured knowing that your offensive front is well taken care of.

Eothasian Breastplate
If you are someone who is prone to taking a lot of damage in battle and want to make sure that your Health does not constantly keep worrying you, then the Eothasian Breastplate is the Medium armor that you should be looking at. One of its bonuses directly provides a buff to your Health stats by increasing its restoration quite significantly from all sources.

In addition to that, it also comes with time-specific benefits, giving further boosts to your Damage and Additional Damage Reduction as you make your way through the Living Lands during the day.

Spiritmender
There are not any Medium armor pieces that can rival the likes of Spiritmender if you are going for a more magic-based build, as its focus on Essence makes it the most fitting protective gear for that class. Starting off at the highest possible tier, Spiritmender rewards your attacking nature by converting some of it into Essence, ensuring that you never run out of the chance of hitting your enemies with special abilities.
Additionally, Spiritmender also gives a massive boost to your Maximum Essence, which, combined with its high damage reduction stats, makes it the perfect Medium armor for the Wizard class.
You can pair the Spiritmender armor with the Arcanist’s Gloves to give an even bigger boost to your Maximum Essence.
