Asha (Episode 2)

A good Peter Parker is an awkward Peter Parker, and it doesn’t get any weirder than episode two. While working with his new crew of interns at Oscorp, Peter sees a maniac burning buildings downtown on the news. He excuses himself, mumbling something about loving fire, and then runs off.

That’s when Asha claims she’s going to hide the matches because of Peter’s unhinged behavior. It’s a good joke that unfortunately doesn’t get brought up again. Maybe it will be a recurring joke in season two, but either way, hopefully, Asha gets more time in general.

Norman Osborn (Episode 2)

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man does a lot of things differently for Peter Parker’s origin story, and that’s made abundantly clear when Norman Osborn discovers Peter’s secret at the end of episode two. What makes this line great is that Peter thinking about it in his head at the start of episode three. It’s a clever way to empathize with viewers who were left on a cliffhanger.

Spider-Man diehards know that Norman Osborn usually becomes the Green Goblin at some point in these stories, one of Spider-Man’s arch villains. It’s fun to see this new animated show leave Peter’s secret identity in the hands of a renowned aggressor.

Spider-Man (Episode 4)

After the secret is out, Norman becomes Peter’s guy in the chair, giving him active crime tip-offs. He also starts to build costumes for Peter, and the first one makes Spider-Man look like a Superman wannabe with a long cape. When trying to stop a burglary, he gets his cape caught in a crack.

Ever the optimistic hero, Peter asks the thugs if their newly acquired pipe and plywood are to get him down, but of course, they beat him up instead. Episode four is all about wacky suits, and this quote is just one of many fun scenes in this episode.

Daredevil (Episode 6)

Marvel fans can get hyped in episode six, as it sees the return of Daredevil. Peter finds him escaping Oscorp so he pursues him as Spider-Man and the two fight on the roof. The episode establishes that Daredevil is not a widely known hero yet, despite Daredevil clearly hinting that he has been doing this for a while.

That part is at least apparent to Peter, who compliments Daredevil on his fighting prowess, which is when he says this return line. Right now, Peter is still a scrappy fighter as Spider-Man, and Daredevil sees that but also sees the potential within him.

“I Think What You Actually Meant Was Lydia.”

Klev (Episode 7)

Before Severance, Zack Cherry got some nerd credit by appearing as Klev in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He made a return to the MCU in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and now this will be his third appearance.

In episode seven, Nico and Harry are challenged to a cat race by a random woman. She calls Nico Beetlejuice and, before the race can start, Klev has to correct the joke to signify this woman probably meant to call Nico Lydia from Beetlejuice, and not the titular Beetlejuice character. It’s a correctional situation that many movie nerds have probably found themselves in.

Harry Osborn (Episode 8)

Harry Osborn subverts the norm by stealing this line usually associated with Mary Jane Watson. She calls Peter “Tiger” in the comics and in many cartoons. MJ has yet to appear in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and it’s unknown if she ever will.

Regardless, in episode nine Harry surprises Peter with a new suit that looks like the classic red and blue Spider-Man outfit. That’s when he says this line for encouragement so Peter can face his fears against Mac Gargan, aka. Scorpion.

“Who Are You Trying To Impress Osborn, Me Or Yourself?”

Doc Ock (Episode 9)

Doc Ock has a minimal role in season one of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. He makes gadgets for random criminals to aid his research, which eventually gets him caught by Iron Man. It’s more like Peter helps Norman track him down, who then calls Iron Man to save the day.

Norman gloats to his former colleague in prison, as he stole all of his research. While he looks upset, Doc Ock reminds Norman that he will never be as good of a scientist even with the stolen research. It’s a warning that when he gets out, there will be hell to pay.

Lonnie Lincoln (Episode 9)

“With great power comes great respect.” That’s another good line from Norman, who says that to Peter, warping his concept of right and wrong. He plants an earworm in his head, making Peter think he has to kill people like Scorpion just to get ahead.

Just when he’s about to do it with that quote ringing in his mind, Lonnie steps in to prevent him from making the mistake. He reminds Spider-Man of his values and that he is a symbol of hope in the community. It’s a good lesson to learn, and the sad thing is that Lonnie doesn’t even know it’s Peter behind the mask.
