Summary

  • Scream 7 will be set in Pine Grove, Indiana, offering a quintessential small town horror movie setting.
  • The new location allows for unique plot points and potential for future films outside of Sidney’s hometown.
  • Fans are excited for the fresh setting, feeling that it adds a lived-in quality and unique autumn atmosphere to the film.

Many fans believe that Woodsboro is the greatest Scream setting. Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) small California hometown is quaint, charming, and unassuming. As is often the case with the tiny towns where thrillers and horror movies and TV shows are set, it seems like a place where nothing exciting happens. Now, several years after the first Ghostface killings, it’s a place with a dark history.

When Scream 7 was announced, fans were curious if Sidney would be living in Woodsboro again or if she had enough of the bad memories and decided to move. Recent images have shown that Scream 7 has a new location, and it seems like the perfect next step for the slasher franchise.

Scream 7 being a failure could have a catastrophic impact on the franchise moving forward.

Scream 7 Is Set In Pine Grove, Indiana

Scream 7 will be set in Pine Grove, Indiana, and the Instagram account @atlanta_filming has shared several images. Fans can see several locations in this town, including a sign for a Fall festival, football schedule for Pine Grove high school, a flower shop, the Pine Grove theater, a sign that says “Welcome to historic downtown,” and the outside of a restaurant called Pine Grove Griddle. From these images, it’s clear that Scream 7 has a quintessential horror movie small town setting that will make the slasher story even better.

Scream 7 should feel like a low-budget horror movie, just like the original movie from 1996, and the new setting works so well because it’s simple and charming. It has all the elements that made Woodsboro so great, including the warm and friendly small town feel and old-fashioned vibe, but it looks even better.

It’s great that Scream 7 is set in a small town again instead of taking place in another big city. While the New York City setting of Scream 6 made the story even more haunting and terrifying since Ghostface could be hiding in a crowd, most contemporary slasher movies take place in small towns. Since characters living in these places tend to know their neighbors and trust everyone around them, that makes the fact that a killer is among them even more unnerving.

Scream 7‘s Pine Grove, Indiana setting also works since it includes several perfect locations for Ghostface to strike and hints at some plot points. It’s easy to imagine Sidney and her family, including her husband Mark Evans (Joel McHale), having breakfast at the Pine Grove Griddle. Maybe Sidney’s daughter is acting in a play at the Pine Grove theater, which would make them a sitting target for Ghostface. Sidney might also own one of the businesses in town, which could open up the possibility of her coworker, boss, or fellow town business owner being Ghostface. It’s also possible to imagine Ghostface hiding during a high school football game.

Most of all, the Scream 7 setting sets up a new era for the franchise. Sidney is living somewhere new and has left Woodsboro behind, which could suggest that future movies won’t be set in her hometown. If Sidney doesn’t come back for future films, it’s possible that they could be set in Woodsboro, but it might not make that much sense without her. Since some fans think Scream 7 could lead to a new trilogy, it’s interesting to imagine three more movies set in Pine Grove. At the very least, it looks like a lot of work and effort has been put into making Pine Grone look charming and pretty in Scream 7.
