  • Neagley spin-off follows Frances Neagley on a dangerous path to uncover evil, introducing a new cast.

Reacher season 3 launched on Prime Video last week with the first three episodes, and it re-introduced fan favorite, Frances Neagley into the story. Maria Sten has played Reacher’s sidekick in all three seasons of the show, and it was announced last year that a spin-off centered around Neagley was in the works. Exciting news broke this week when Maria Sten announced that filming on Neagley was underway.

Neagley will be set in Chicago, and it will surround the private investigator with a new cast of characters, while Alan Ritchson’s titular hero will also have a recurring role. Production began on February 18, 2025, but there is currently no release date for the spin-off series. Reacher creator, Nick Santora, will be the showrunner on Neagley alongside Nicholas Wootton, and fans can’t wait to see what’s in store for the ex-110th Special Investigator.

Fans have been hyped for Neagley‘s upcoming spin-off show ever since it was announced back in October 2024. Maria Sten provided some tantalizing details in an interview with Screen Time shortly before filming got underway earlier this month:

I can’t, of course, reveal any plot, but we’re just about to get started with filming. And I’m so excited with the material. It’s very much Neagley in her world and I guess you do see her in Chicago when you meet her in season three, so in that way we establish she has a world outside of Reacher when she isn’t going off on crazy missions to help him. Or when I’m not enlisting him to find our friends. I think you do find her in her own universe and I think that maybe is what will help us tie into this show.

The first three episodes of Reacher season 3 did introduce the audience to Neagley’s world, as she responded to Reacher’s call for help from her base in Chicago. It looks like the current season might provide further set-ups for the Neagley spin-off series, and act as an extended backdoor pilot. It is unclear how Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher will fit into the spin-off, but he’ll likely provide a similar role to that of Frances Neagley in Reacher.

What Is The Neagley Spin-Off About?

The official synopsis for the now officially titled Neagley is:

Frances Neagley is a private investigator in Chicago. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.

As Frances Neagley has proven in her exploits in Reacher, she is more than a match for her hulking counterpart. She’s super-smart, and has the action skills to back it up, so her spin-off will be the perfect way to explore her as a character, while giving her the chance to take center stage.

Maria Sten elaborated on what fans might learn about Neagley when the spin-off hits television screens in the same interview with Screen Time:

I love the material, I love that we get to know her better, I love that we get to really dig into some character stuff and new cast members that we’re very excited about.

Neagley only appears in two of Lee Child’s books, but Nick Santora and the creative team behind Reacher clearly saw the potential for the character, and they’ve expanded her further in Reacher, and they will go even further in the spin-off series. Neagley will very much be an ensemble piece, and the recent casting announcements have added to fans’ anticipation for the series.
