Pokemon fan and woodworking artist MediocrePlayer, aka lukehaeba, shared their creation of a charming Cyndaquil they made out of basswood. The body of the Cyndaquil has been carved entirely out of basswood, while the flames on its back are made from a custom-molded resin. According to the artist, the project took two months to complete from start to finish, and they go into great detail on its creation via an Instagram post. Images show them starting out with a small block of basswood that they gradually chiseled the basic Cyndaquil shape out of, before polishing and perfecting it. The resin flames on its back were made by creating a polymer clay design first, and then using that to create a silicone mold that they poured the colored resin into. The resulting design allows light to shine through, making Cyndaquil’s flames look like they’re sparkling.
Pokemon Fans Share Praise for Cyndaquil Creation
Numerous users on both Reddit and Instagram have shared their praise with the artist for their creation. Some have called it perfect, while one said that the flames look identical to how they appear in the games. Others have inquired about buying one for themselves, to which the artist has replied that they should contact them directly. This Cyndaquil was a commission, so it seems they’re open to accepting paid requests for wood-carved Pokemon.
As it stands, this isn’t this particular fan’s first venture into creating adorable wood-carved Pokemon. Fans have previously been impressed by their works in the past, with two of their works in 2024 catching fans’ eyes in particular. The artist made waves for their Lapras and Dratini wood carvings near the end of the year. Lapras was made from walnut and sapele wood, while Dratini utilized maple wood. These little creations are charming and one-of-a-kind, and many seem to be excited to see what Pokemon the artist tackles next, regardless of how long it takes for them to complete it.
