Metal Gear fans looking for a way to pass time while waiting for the Snake Eater remake may want to check out the new tabletop adaptation of the first Metal Gear Solid game. Released in January and available at Amazon for $110, Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game is inspired by the original PlayStation game and VR Missions. It’s a hybrid stealth-strategy game for one to four players–yes, it’s fully playable solo–but it also comes with 24 miniatures and other components that could make for cool display pieces, too.
$110
Metal Gear Solid’s board game adaptation offers a 14-mission campaign filled with stealth, strategy, and iconic boss battles that replicate the game it’s based on. There are also six VR Missions with shorter, action-packed scenarios. Gear earned during these runs can then be used in subsequent rounds.
To keep things interesting, you’ll need to adapt and improvise when taking on bosses, as each playable character–Solid Snake, Meryl, Otacon, and Gray Fox–offers unique tactical abilities. The officially licensed board game was created by award-winning Emerson Matsuuchi and published by CMON Limited.
The game box features promo art from the original PlayStation game. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to get started, including cards and tokens with original artwork and two-dozen highly detailed character pieces. You’ll even get two minis featuring Solid Snake hiding in a cardboard box.
At $110, Metal Gear: The Board Game sounds pricey, but miniatures games are often expensive, especially when they come with as many figurines as this one. If you like painting miniatures, you’ll have plenty of Metal Gear models to add to your queue. Here’s the full list of materials found. in the box.
