Summary

  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is aimed at a broader audience than kids’ cartoons, with nods to the MCU.
  • Disney has confirmed at least 3 seasons of the show, raising questions surrounding Peter’s father, W.E.B., and more.
  • Season one hints at potential plotlines involving Daredevil, symbiotes, Norman Osborn, and character losses in season two.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is the first new animated show based on the web crawler that’s not aimed entirely at kids. While it isn’t tied directly to the current MCU, it does have some nods, like returning actors. Daredevil, for example, is played by Charlie Cox. It’s an alternate reality that may tie in one day as it does set itself up with a lot of loose threads by the end of season one.

Thankfully for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man fans, Disney has confirmed there will be at least three seasons. So, before season two drops, let’s go over the questions left on the table at the end of season one.

Spoilers Ahead for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

What Did Richard Parker Do?

Does Peter Know He Is Alive

Richard Parker in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Season one ends with an all-time cliffhanger for a Marvel show. Aunt May goes to visit a prison, presumably to see someone she cares about, but no one could have predicted it would be Peter’s father, Richard. Does Peter know he’s alive? Either way, what got him locked away in prison?

This is something not touched on in cartoons often and could prove to flip a big trend. Richard could perhaps be a known criminal in the comics like Kingpin, although that seems unlikely. The only recent piece of media to do something interesting with the Parkers was in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, where they were spies on the run.

What’s To Come From W.E.B.?

Will Asha Be More Than A Scientist?

Harry Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Peter encourages Harry to use some of his money to set up a new foundation for budding scientists away from Oscorp and ultimately his father’s watchful eye. Season one ends with Harry setting up the W.E.B. or the Worldwide Engineering Brigade.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man could just be the beginning, with characters like Doctor Strange and Daredevil deserving the animated treatment.

He invites several old colleagues, including Asha from Wakanda, who seems enthused by the idea. One thing that isn’t established in season one is how Wakanda is viewed by the rest of the world. Is Wakanda a superpower? Is the Black Panther known? Asha and Harry have a lot of filling in to do in season two, that’s for sure.

How Much Will Daredevil And Finesse Tie Into Season 2?

Richard Parker Could Use A Lawyer

Finesse in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Daredevil is only shown as a superhero in season one, and not as a super-lawyer. Matt Murdock could somehow get entangled in Peter’s life to perhaps aid in getting Richard out. It would be an easy way to get the human character in the show rather than the devil within.

Then there’s his sidekick, Jeanne Foucault, aka. Finesse, who infiltrated Oscorp. She agrees to join the W.E.B. for Daredevil to continue her spy efforts, so maybe between the two of them, they will get more airtime in season two.

Was That A Symbiote?

And How Will Norman Repurpose That Ooze?

A Symbiote in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

When is Venom going to show up? That’s typically a question asked whenever a new Spider-Man project is getting off the ground. Fans love Venom and, surprisingly, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man opens with Venom clashing with Doctor Strange. Or at least, some kind of symbiote is fighting Doctor Strange when Peter gets to his new school. It certainly looks like Venom, albeit in a more bug-like build.

It could prove to be some other symbiote from the comics, or it could be an original creation too. Either way, a piece of ooze was left behind after the final battle in episode ten, and it’s quite possible Norman bagged it up to test and experiment on later.

3

How Will Norman Use Doc Ock’s Research?

Could He Become Doctor Octopus?

Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man-1

Subverting expectations or hiding characters in plain sight was a trick in season one of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Norman Osborn was set up to be a role model for Peter, but like all other Norman Osborne’s before him, this one turned into a sketchy dude. The comics point to him becoming Green Goblin, as is tradition, not to mention the glider was in this cartoon as well.

However, given the technology he steals from Doc Ock, Norman may become Doctor Octopus in his stead. It would be weird, but again, unexpected. Maybe he could combine the two and become the Green Octopus?

2

Will Peter Lose Someone In Season 2?

From Nico To Pearl, The Odds Are Stacked Against Peter

Nico Minoru in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

MJ is Peter’s forever girl in the comics despite him losing her countless times. He loses a lot of other girls in his life too, like Gwen Stacey. Gwen and MJ are absent in season one of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, though they’re replaced by Nico Minoru and Pearl.

11 Best Characters In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Ranked

The many characters, including Daredevil and Norman Osborn, have helped Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man become an instant classic.

Pearl is Peter’s crush, but Nico is his best friend who looks as though she may be hiding affectionate feelings for him. To establish canon points, Peter has to lose someone eventually (it’s just Peter Parker’s lot in life), and of the many characters introduced so far, it could be either Nico or Pearl. Nico does have magic though, as she can talk to the dead, but that’s a whole other series of questions.

Is Lonnie The 110th Street Gang’s New Leader?

The Rise Of Tombstone

Lonnie Lincoln in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Lonnie Lincoln looks like a jock on the level of a Flash Thompson, another jock rival to Peter. Lonnie is cooler though, with love for his family as his top priority, and he has brains besides a lot of football talent. Lonnie and Peter get along great, at least, until Lonnie gets sucked into the 110th Street Gang to save his brother.

During the climactic fight in episode nine, Lonnie gets doused with chemicals that start hardening his body. It’s what happens to Alonzo Lincoln, aka. Tombstone, in the comics. The origin is a bit different, but Lonnie is indeed the Tombstone of legend. What’s next for him now? Will Lonnie become one solid chunk of gray like in the comics, and will he lead the gang now that he has this power?
