The First Berserker: Khazan gives Soulslike fans a glimpse at some of the bosses they’ll be facing off against when the game releases next month. One of the more unique-looking Soulslikes of the past few years, The First Berserker: Khazan was first unveiled at The Game Awards in 2023 and has received a number of exciting trailers and updates in the months since.
One of the main aspects of The First Berserker: Khazan that makes it stand out from the crowd of other Souls games is its art style. The game impressively blends its 2D anime-style character designs with its fully 3D environments to make for an art style that has seldom been seen in the Souls genre. Add to that its gothic dark fantasy setting and brutally stylish and difficult combat, and The First Berserker: Khazan has become a game Souls fans need to pay attention to this year.

Nexon Discusses The First Berserker: Khazan’s Approach to World Design
Game Rant caught up with Nexon to discuss The First Berserker: Khazan and how it approaches world design, balancing a linear approach with freedom.
As part of this year’s ongoing IGN FanFest, The First Berserker: Khazan has received yet another action-packed gameplay trailer, this time centered around some of the game’s mighty boss fights. The nearly two-minute trailer begins with Khazan facing off against an umbrella-wielding woman who appears to be able to control the water that towers around the boss arena. The rest of the trailer shows Khazan battling two different large beasts, one a giant wolf-like creature named Shactuka, and the other called Specter of Bhangau, a large ram-like entity who wields a hammer and spike.
The First Berzerker: Khazan Releases New Boss Fight Trailer
Unfortunately, the portion of the trailer that focuses on the umbrella-wielding woman doesn’t have the HUD visible, so her name is unknown. With that said, she seems to be more of an important story boss than the other two beast-like foes, judging by the short cutscene snippet that kicks off this new trailer. Throughout the trailer, Khazan can be seen blocking enemy projectiles with his massive swords, parrying enemy attacks, and pulling off fast combos. Something that stood out is the fact that, when going on the offensive, Khazan’s attacks seem to be doing very little damage to these boss’ health bars. It’s unknown whether the Khazan the team used to capture this trailer footage was perhaps a bit under-leveled, or whether The First Berserker: Khazan truly is that difficult.
The First Berserker: Khazan is due to release in about a month from now, on March 27, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Though not a Soulslike, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows is looking to make a big splash a week prior to The First Berserker, but Khazan has undoubtedly already captured the hearts and minds of Souls fans; both games should be able to thrive when they release in late March.
