- Fans speculate that Imu’s true form may actually be a ghostly figure, not human.
- The possibility of Imu’s design being a joke fits with One Piece’s comedic tone.
Imu has always been one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece. Acting as the secret ruler of the World Government and the entire One Piece world, Imu is the center of so many secrets that fans can’t wait to discover. However, being such a vital character to the secret lore of One Piece, little known information about the character has been revealed, and most likely won’t be revealed for the foreseeable future.
This includes Imu’s form and official design, which haven’t even been revealed in the story of One Piece. Still, although many fans are excited to see what hides behind Imu’s silhouette, others have proposed an alternate, albeit fairly goofy, explanation. These fans believe that the One Piece villain, Imu’s, true appearance is a silhouette, making the true ruler of the world look more like a ghostly apparition than a human being.

Imu Has No Form In One Piece
The Final Design Hasn’t Been Revealed Yet
In One Piece, Imu acts as the mysterious ruler of the world, someone who is kept secret from the rest of society. Being an immortal being with an indeterminate amount of power, Imu controls a deadly weapon that is capable of entirely annihilating an island. However, due to their mysterious status, no person knows Imu’s true form, which is constantly covered by a ghostly silhouette. Still, Vivi has witnessed Imu’s form and is on the run from One Piece’s World Government, who are looking to silence her to preserve the secret of the ruler.

The actual silhouette of Imu looks strangely round, looking more like a standard ghost than a human. With long robes and a tall crown, Imu’s form seems to be perfectly smooth, with two eyes acting as the only discernible features. Even features like Imu’s hands are rarely shown in the story of One Piece. However, due to Imu’s limited appearances in the series so far, there may be more definable attributes of the figures if the character appeared more frequently.
Imu’s True Form May Be The Silhouette
There Is No Design Behind The Shadow
- The Shadow Could Be Imu’s Real Body
- Imu May Not Be Human Anymore
However, despite seemingly having a normal human form hiding behind the , some fans are starting to believe that Imu’s true body may simply be a ghostly form. Rather than appearing as some terrifying monster or imposing human, these fans believe that Oda has been showing Imu’s true form since their first appearance. Outside of the secret nature of being the world’s ruler in One Piece, this would also explain why Imu is shown to be hidden from society.

While this seems fairly strange, it does fit One Piece well both logically and tonally. With Imu being an immortal being with an undefined level of power and abilities, sacrificing their human form for a stronger, ghostly form doesn’t seem too far outside of the realm of possibility. Additionally, Imu could possess some sort of powerful Zoan Devil Fruit that changes their body into a more godlike form, like Luffy’s Human-Human Fruit Model: Nika.

Imu’s Design Being A Shadow Could Be A Great Joke
At the same time, although some fans believe that this would be a bit too goofy, for many others, it fits perfectly with the established tone of One Piece. Overall, the series prioritizes jokes and laughter over anything else, making these bizarre moments and character forms feel more natural. It would be very fitting if the final antagonist of One Piece had a strange form that is played as a big joke during the important reveal. For many, showing Imu’s true form, yet pretending that it’s a silhouette, could be Oda’s best joke in the entire series.
There is no one king of the entire world…
In the end, while it seems possible that Imu could be a ghostly figure, it seems more likely that Oda is simply holding on to the reveal of Imu’s design for the perfect moment. Much like the characters in the series, the audience of One Piece isn’t allowed to see Imu’s form until much later. However, once Imu’s official design is revealed, it’s bound to be one of the biggest One Piece moments, whether they are a monster, a human, or even a silly ghost.
