Helldivers 2 Major Order Gives Players A Choice Between Gas Mines And Feeble Young Adults

Summary

  • In a previous Major Order, Helldivers 2 players rallied to save children over anti-tank mines.
  • Arrowhead donated $4,311 to charity, highlighting the impact of player choices in-game.
  • The current Major Order presents a similar dilemma to save feeble young adults.

We’ve had many decisive moments in the Second Galactic War in Helldivers 2. The Jet Brigade destroying DSS maneuver, the instant victory over the Illuminate vanguard, the introduction of the portable Hellbomb, are all key victories for Super Earth. However, none of them are as endearing as when players rallied to save the children Vernen Wells while giving up the anti-tank mines.

Arrowhead’s multiplayer hit reminded us that we can expect better from live-service games.

The reason why this is such a memorable moment is that the Major Order was set as one of Helldivers 2’s faux-democracy in-jokes, but players decided to save the children anyway. In a show of appreciation, Arrowehead donated $4,311 to a real life children’s charity. It seems we’ve been given that same choice again, sort of.

Adults Are More Valuable As They Can Vote

The latest Major Order in Helldivers 2 presents players with a similar choice. On one side is the choice to save Duma Tyr and get the Gas Mines stratagem, and on the other is to save Julheim where, instead of children, there are moderately feeble young adults trapped on the planet. It seems to be a similar choice, but it’s a little puzzling as to why feeble young adults have been brought into the mix.

“Intercepted communications indicate the enemy has two ultimate targets,” reads the Major Order. “Whether the Helldivers will choose to expand their arsenal with Gas Mines from the factories on Duma Tyr, or whether they will save the moderately feeble young adults trapped on Julheim – only the Helldivers themselves can know. The Helldivers—humanity’s most trusted judges—are charged to make this difficult choice.”

Perhaps this is another charity-based Major Order by Arrowhead, but while the previous one featured a surprise donation to a children’s charity, it’s unclear whether the studio will do something similar if the feeble young adults are saved.

Thinking in-universe for a bit, feeble young adults are far more important than Gas Mines. Feeble or not, their vote counts the same. So, it’s worth saving these voters in the name of democracy.
