On February 26, GOG announced that F.E.A.R. Platinum is now part of the platform’s Game Preservation Program following the closure of Monolith Productions. Additionally, GOG users have until March 1 to purchase F.E.A.R Platinum for 99 cents, which includes the base game and the Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate expansions at no added cost.
Originally released in 2005, F.E.A.R., short for First Encounter Assault Recon, was developed by Monolith. F.E.A.R. is a first-person horror shooter that puts players in the perspective of the mysterious Point Man, a member of the titular F.E.A.R. team. After a paramilitary force takes command of an Armacham Technology Corporation (ATC) aerospace compound and claims hostages, a Special Forces squad is sent to take them down, but they are horrifically destroyed. F.E.A.R. is then sent to eliminate the paramilitary intruders. However, the squadron is beset by various paranormal threats, including the Sadako-inspired psychic Alma, one of the series’ primary antagonists.

Platinum is available on GOG for 99 cents before taxes and fees. Originally set at $9.99, the 90% discount on GOG will end on Saturday, March 1, at 3:00 AM Eastern. Ergo, fans have under three days at the time of writing to purchase F.E.A.R. Platinum for an incredibly low price. The collection includes the base F.E.A.R. game, and the Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate expansions. F.E.A.R Extraction Point picks up immediately where the base game left off. F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate runs parallel to the base game, as a secondary F.E.A.R. team uncovers part of ATC’s dark history.
F.E.A.R. Platinum Is Available For 99 Cents Until March 1
Although F.E.A.R.’s online multiplayer functionality has long been defunct, players can access multiplayer content via a LAN connection. GOG announced that F.E.A.R. Platinum would be added to its growing Game Preservation Program sometime in March. While it was originally scheduled for inclusion later, the closure of Monolith Productions forced GOG to change its plans. On social media, GOG and CD Projekt wanted to recognize Monolith’s contributions to gaming history. GOG said more news about the Game Preservation Program would be announced on February 27.
Despite the closure of Monolith Productions, F.E.A.R. Platinum will be remembered as one of the scariest FPS entries on PC. Horror fans looking to add more games on the cheap should grab F.E.A.R. Platinum without hesitation.
