I’m not upset over this, since I’m not even a Fable fan, but MS has been doing this for over a decade now. Which is announcing games that just started development (so only concept art exists and a rough script outline), in order to get people to buy their plastic box.
Then it dissappears for a few years, only to resurface, in order to remind people to buy their plastic box, then they build up hype for it, only to delay or cancel game outright.
Perfect Dark was used to sell Xbox One consoles, then used to sell Xbox Series consoles. Is that game even going to be released for the Series S|X? Will it be promised all over again for their next plastic box(es)?
My issue with this is that it doesn’t feel accidental, but rather intentional. Make big promises, get people buy into your ecosystem, then delay and cancel year after year. And if by some miracle an actual game does release, its usually unpolished, or highly disappointing.
